Well I see these terms used very commonly on these forums, and there are gas struts and swaybars all over eBay.. Im just curious as to what these two items do?

Cheers,
Scott

Never heard of a gas swaybar, but a gas strut is the part that holds up/open a hatch boot or cars bonnet.

Edit: ie see here: http://www.pbase.com/jcarruthers/gaststruts

True. Didnt think of them like that. A shock obsorber (a part of the cars suspension that obsorbs the bumps) is sometimes called a strut .

Plus PQ points.

Yer I think the strusts are more likely shock absorbers..

And I wasnt asking for a gas swaybar.. But two seperate questions..

a) Gas Strut

and

b) Swaybar

Cheers

Search for swaybar using the search and you'll get pics and all that. Gas strut is a bit more obscure as it can mean gas-filled shocks or those little struts that hold the boot up.

I know what a swaybar looks like but Im wondering what function it has? Ive seen fotos of it where it goes across the underside of the hood but I still have no idea what its there for..

Edit: Perhaps im talking about strut bars?

Oh I dunno :P
