ooh man we need to get your car to the strip after Friday. Congrats on finishing the i/h/e combination - with top shelf parts too. Are you going to stick with the stock cat at the moment?

Yep the strip is on the agenda, as is the track. Thanks, I can finally rest easy for a while with the mods now (hopefully). haha you obviously never saw my thread about the euroR metal cat I had installed along with the maxim headers?

Ahh - i forgot about that. So hard to keep track of peoples mods these days now that "my garage" has gone. Would be great if people update their signature with their mods. I'll do mine as example.

again? Chris you JDM whore...Look freaking nice man.. Love the welding and the burnt look..

Chris_F
08-06-2006, 05:01 PM
haha, unfortuneately i caught the bug :thumbdwn: the welding on the exhaust is really good, and its really bloody light, but the bends could be better (probably due to the difficulty of working with titanium) and its not totally perfect quality wise.

here's a better pic:zip:

i've actually yet to see this exhaust in person. Just today it arrived at centrax and I've been sent some other pictures showing some dints on the piping and within the flanges. Theres a chance i may not be installing this bloody thing afterall  CRAP!

i mean who wants tainted products that cost this much!

kitbkk
09-06-2006, 12:11 AM
how much the full system cost you Chris? My guess would be some where +2500? If you feel not comfy to post it here or if its against ozhonda's rules just pm. me..I would like to...know

Chris_F
09-06-2006, 12:18 AM
ill send you a pm.

Hopefully the pictures are making it look worse than it is. Ill probably end up installing it anyway, just depends on how i judge it in person.

Finally, time for the impressions...

Quality: The welding is top notch, and exhaust hangers are solid titanium for extra strength. The grade of titanium also appears to be quite good. The only let down is in the bends - on each bend there is a slight flat spot and/or bump. The conclusion myself and the guys at Centrax came to was
the filler used to bend the piping was undersized or the machine itself wasn't suited to bending titanium. Although I decided that the flatspots were acceptable and would have negligable impact on performance I was still expecting something a bit better from J's when it came to the bends.

Fitment: This exhaust fits really well as you can probably tell by the pictures. There was one problem i ran into however. Althought the clearence between the cat and Cusco Type II lower arm bar was practically identital to stock the cat the cat began to hit on the crossmembers when i went for the first test drive. I think this is because of it's drastically reduced weight compared to stock - it makes it easier for the engine to transfer motion to the exhaust system on shifts (my theory anyway). My solution will probably be to wrap heat proof fiberglass wrap around the parts of the cat and lower arm bar so that they are firmly touching (should stop the rattles and make the exhaust hanger firmer).

Sound: DEFINITELY the best part about this exhaust. Sounds perfect. I think the best way to describe the note is deep yet untainted, full bodied yet crisp (sounds like a good wine come to think of it). In the cabin the exhaust is heard through the rev range, but only subtly and is never overly intrusive in normal driving. Give it some stick (WOT) and the intake is still louder, but you can definitely hear this thing... and what a sound. Totally in love with it. Hold out for the sound clip, it'll be worth it.

Performance: On the first drive the difference was noticeable but after a few more runs, giving the ecu time to learn, the gain with this exhaust is substantial. I'd say equivalent to what i felt from the headers or intake, possibly slightly more. The engine revs very freely all through the RPM (no more waiting for 6k rpm). I think torque in the first few thousand rpm may ahve suffered slightly but the mid to high range feels great (from about 4krpm to redline).

Points of interest: This thing is damn light! Approximately 5.5kg (weighed on a couple of different scales to ensure a decent reading). This represents a 17kg weight saving over stock (totally balemic).

The J's racing 60rs (what i have) is now discontinued and to be replaced by the revised Titanium FX series. Hopefully it means I've just scored a rare fully sick 'jdm' part  haha.

ENOUGH RAMBLING... pics

Gerald, I want some nice brake pads next, then further down the track maybe some sort of ecu to get the full potential out of these parts

It's only a short clip but hopefully it gives some idea to what it sounds like.

Might even have a video clip up in a week or so.

Sequence:
Turn on
Part throttle to 2-2.5k rpm
Full throttle rev to 4k rpm
Quick throttle blip to about 3k rpm

sounds nice man.. so, excuse me being noob,,any cat back system that can fit CL7 can actually fit our CL9? yeah ur right aaronng, we need to listen to ur j's at WOT chris!! i reckon it would sound very agressive when vtec engage.

aaronng
15-06-2006, 01:22 PM
Yeah, if just a blip sounds like that, WOT on the road would sound so sweet. I like it. It's a meaty growl rather than those loud rumbling of the other exhausts.

yep that's right  The differences in exhaust between the CL7 and CL9 is due to the different length of the header and cat. Their combined length is the same though so any catback will fit CL7 or CL9. This means you either have to have a CL7 designed header + CL7 cat or CL9 header + CL9 Cat - match em up like that and you're good to go.

hmm, the exhaust does sound aggressive at higher rpm, but the intake may over power it in the cabin. So, if i do it I should probably do a drive by - see if i can organise something for you guys

so what's the request, in cabin to redline or drive-by to redline (or both)?

This exhaust defintiely has a unqiue sound at higher rpm
