Hi guys

I am listening more on SQ but occasinally music with deep bass too.

Which one do you think suits me between Boston G512,JL Audio 12W7, Rockford T212D or Orion H2?

From those subs I only ever have audition with Rockford T1 (not T2) series, and not the others.

Any one recommend which subs that can perform well both SQ/SPL? Thanks

I would get the JL Audio out of those ones.

But in reality you are paying $$$ just for the brand name.

I would personally get the Adire Brahma or Tulmult instead. Its just as good, if not better, at half the price or even less :)

I had a Cerwin Vega 12" sub which cost $700, then upgraded to an Adire Shiva at $300, and the Shiva blew the Cerwin away big time in both SQ and SPL. No comparison...

I really recommend you consider the Adire series.

Is boot space an issue? If it then then i'd say get a sub which suits sealed boxes, because it doesn't take up much space and sounds awesome if you want tight bass. That's not to say that a sub in a ported box can not sound the same it's just it'll take up a fair bit of room. Although the ported box is more efficient so the sub will play lower and louder with less power. Although keep in mind that a ported box is much better for SPL than a sealed one.

It's best if you listen to each of the subs, different subs will have different characteristics. What box they're installed into will also have an adverse affect on how it'll sound. An $800 sub in the wrong box will sound worse than a $300 sub in a right box.

Personally I haven't listened to any of the subs mentioned but i'd definitely be interested in the Boston. I had a Pioneer 306C (wanted bass and i wanted it cheap, wasn't a bad sub at all), a couple weeks later I found a Boston Pro 10.5 (2nd hand) and i just loved the way it sounded. I. It was a smaller sub but it sounded better and took up less space in the boot. Boston

How about's Digital Design's? They've got subs ranging from $250 up to over $2000, awesome for SPL and apparently sound pretty good as well.

Image Dynamics is another brand which is known for their subs.

I haven't had any personal experience with the adire brahma, but have with a very similar beast in the RE Audio XXX sub. These are awesome subs that in the right enclosure will give both great SQ as well as go very loud (especially for every day listening). Unfortunately you won't be able to get an XXX in Aus unless you can get one second hand, not sure where you can get Adire stuff.

Something else to look into possibly IDMAX, there aren't any in the country at this stage as far as I know, but there is a new version about to be released I believe some time in the near future.

Theres a dude in Melbourne who sells Adire. I think the Adire site lists them as the Aus reseller.

Googling Adire will point to heaps of reviews and comparisons against top-brand names, and are quite respected.

From memory, there was a review in Car Audio & Electronics and they mentioned that the Cerwin Vega Stroker Pro 15 was built for SPL but was one of the best SQ subs ever tested.

The Stroker was originally built as a PA speaker. It was later used as a SPL sub. You can get SQ out of it with some work. The best, in my opinion, SPL/SQ sup is the Image Dynamics ID Max. It does very well all around. It's not as much as the Strokers or some of the others. They are about $350USD new for a 12", $450USD for a 15".

If you have a 1K budget, I suggest you look at the JL Audio 12W6v2 or even the 13W6v2. If not, spend a little bit more and go the 12W7.

I have old Orion HCCA 2100. It should be enough to drive the subs I guess.

hmmm, well looks like a big amp... 2x100, so probably 400-500WRMS bridged.

it would be better if u had a monoblock, but if u plan upgrading then a monoblock would be more superior than a Class AB amp, for driving subs.

I would say .. either a DD3512 or maybe an IDMAX, but right now there arent any new IDMAX in Australia...so u gotta wait.
