ok here is the problem (and try to spare me with the jokes :o )
when i give my car a hit ie close to redline in first and second everything is fine, but when i stop, or pull up at a set of traffic lights there is this really bad smell that come from the car... it smells like a really leathel egg fart, and im not joking.
the car used to have a pod filter on it, but that was usless as there was no CAI so i put the stock air box back on, and if memory serves my correctly, the smell has started since i put the stock box back on... i dunno if thats the problem but thats the only thing i have done to the car that i can think would have caused this smell...
any ideas what it is and what to do?!?!
p.s. i got a 94civ vti
cheers

Dont know if this can help but when you smell something like that it might be the coolant in the air conditioner, you need to replace it. It usually smells like body odour.
Your cats deads. Its Sulphur.

My Mitchelin Pilot Sports gives out rotten egg smell when i drive hard. It may be the tyres.

If it's there consistantly, then it could be the cat, otherwise it could just be a bad batch of fuel, but either way it is still sulfer.
I had it on my car a month or so ago and the car only has 3,500kms on it so it definately isn't a dead cat
Guys
Stop using Optimax and your car won't smell of rotten eggs when you push it hard.
Its cos of the high sulphur content in Optimax.

Chriserrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It's prolly bad batch of fuel or dead cat.
You should hear some rattling soon when your cat breaks into pieces?
Optimax QC over fuel is crap!
yep, could be a dead cat. but if u dont have a rattling cat, swap over to different fuel first to test it. fuel is cheaper than a cat! :)
I haven't seen any car that doesnt smell of rotten eggs when pushed, running on optimax that is! :)

Have you popped the hood and checked the battery?
My old car stank like rotten eggs (=hydrogen sulfide) from the car's battery acid. It could be leaking, or the alternator could be stuffing up.

Yes very very common for the problem to be cause from the alternater over charging or faulty battery,
max volts you want the alternator putting out is about 14v so give it a check

ok well i had a look at the battery but it is fine....
but the smell has stopped, or so it seems... i filled it up wid optimax and the smell has gone, well it seems to have... i have been filling up wid unleaded of late at shell, simply coz optimax has been too expensive... but ill give it a good boot tomorrow and let u know the out come... maybe my car just doesnt like shells normal unleaded...
stupid car!!!
maybe i just spray it with deoderant....

"looking" at the battery will tell you nothing, use a multimeter and give it a good rev whilst recording the output.

I find my car smells too if i am driving hard... and I use BP ultimate. ive got a new cat as well... so dunnno... really... maybe its smell of burning clutch..?? or brakes... or cos your car would have been running rich at WOT and its unburnt fuel.
I dunno

hey yeah... optimax does stink like bad eggs :P :D... Thats what the smell was. At first i thought i was just pushing the tyres hard haha. Now i'm convinced it was the car next to me screaching. :D YeY my car lives on Rails.
