okay guys, my s2k was cold, i started her up and made my way home, as i went to hit high revs, the rev metre hit about 5-6grand and it cut out.. was curious to know if this has happened to anyone, or know what might've caused the problem? I'm assuming it was bcoz the car was cold, but not too sure..

cheers,

Kare

but yeah, drive it when it's cold, but don't redline/give it hell.
lol.
let it warm up to normal operating temps before going nuts
cheers

When your engine is not warmed up, the ECU sets the rev limit to 6000rpm and disables vtec. Same thing happens to the Celica too.

s2k technology > s15 technology...

also don't vtec until you have got 3 bars, but even then wait a few minutes because the oil temp wont come to operating temp as quickly as the water temp will. Also don't warm up the car in the driveway until it has 3 bars then go vtec it because you need to let the gear box and diff fluids warm up
so always drive it gently first just to warm all the moving parts up then you can give it hell!

Or better yet, heres a suggestion, just, don't give it hell at all......? lol

Why would you own a S2000 then? To admire it in the driveway?

I can understand what ludecrs is sayin. Especially when it comes to drivin on the streets. Give it hell at the track, look sexy on the street!!!

But yeh, let it totally warm up before you give it some.

even in my old 2001 corolla it wouldn't engage 4th gear on a cold start for around 5mins (it was auto)

only on cold winter days tho. it'll just rev upto around 4k b4 selecting 4th gear whereas b4 it'll get into 4th at 2k rpm

This is a feature of the s2000, thats why u could take ure car to redline even if it was cold, really bad idea though. The rev limiter is also know as the "moron" limiter amongst the s2000 forums (not my words)for a reason.

just stick to warming up the car and your car shouldnt f up on u on the long run.

i take the 3 bars is a good sign to say the cars warmed up...

once theres 3 bars.. go redline all u want.

To add to what Rolled said, warm your car up by driving gingerly for a few kilometres. Not only does this warm up the engine and drive train but it also warms up the tyres. Not much point in having a perfect condition engine in your S if it's wrapped around a tree.
