getteing a knocking tapping noise comming from the head of my b16a. Any ideas as to what it could be im getting it checked asap but just a heads up.

Note: it only started after last service oil is at normal level and its not burning any oil or making any form of smoke/smell from the exhaust. And by head i mean VALVES CAM area. cheers

Also after a cv boot. Anyone got one??

did they adjust your cams at your last service. Could be play in the cams

it seems with the more revs it dissapears. but i would say thats due to the sound blending in when revs rise. to represent it as a sound it would be like lightly and quickly clapping your hands together

I have a similar problem also. I haven't fixed it yet but mine is coming from the LMA's, (lost motion assemblies), I have adjusted tappets to no avail.

mine starts on idle and works its way out upon revs increasing..... but as i said who knows because the sound could be blending in as it becomes quicker.

its either your tappets or you LMA (lost motion assembly)
Thought mine was tappets but after doing them, same noise
plus similar to what you descibed. noisey at idle and dissappeared
as revs were increased.
LMA are a common problem with first gen b16a
they tend to get a bit sticky, and sound horrible when stuffed.

when doing your tappets, check the cam lifter on the vtec cam by
pushing on it and see if it springs back straight away.
if it sticks slightly, new LMA for you.

i did it on mine and has worked a treat since.

how much to fix this probem???

Cost me

8 x $14.85 = 118.80
+ $5 for stanless steal washers of the right size.

so $125 give or take, as i did them myself.
just a slight bit harder (not much) then changing cams.

from a dealer = ????? dont know, but i know the price of
b16a LMA is about twice to triple the cost each.(new)

just have your tappets adjusted.

could be as simple as that.

however they must be adjusted corectly. one cylinder at a time and with a stone cold engine.

it could be a loose piston or sum thing to do with a piston

where can i get a lma for a D series engine?
From your dealer's spare parts department or a wrecked civic with a D series.
