ok, so here's the deal. I have a stock dc2 type r and am looking to do a bit of mod'ing. I had a 3" cat back to a 4" cannon which was there when i got the car but i got defected and now my 3" cat back goes into a 2" muffler which im not too happy about.

i was thinking for the exhaust: 2.5" system with headers -> high flow cat -> either muffler (maybe even my 4") or just using 2 resinator muffler things or something? i need it to be under 90 decibels though.. i cant afford to get pinned again. suggestions?

then for induction: a cold air intake... don't know what brand... any suggestions?

and ECU: i thought maybe the Apexi power FC which has vtec control... or would that be overkill?

cheers, any help would be appreciated.
Andrew.

ey mate

3" is way too big for the b18cR engine. 2.5" is a great size. If you got the cash, i highly recommend a brand exhuast. Ive expereinced the difference between stock and the fujitsubo power getter and i can say the gains are well worth the price tag.

In getting that tho, id also grab a nice set of headers. Ive experienced the spoon headers for the b18cR with high flow cat and the fujitsubo, and the top end gains are pretty big. Great headers. Id recommend you stay away from cheaper brands such as xforce (as you prob know). If spoon/mugen etc headers are a bit out of your price range, look into the JDM 4-1s from the JDM ITRs. They are very good headers and you can usually pick them up fairly cheap incomparison to some of the bigger brand names.

Again from my experience, injen CIAs work very well, a little hard to source from what ive seen/heard, but if you can get one its good. (Not the SRI).
Also the mugen ice box (i think thats what its called) or the comptech version (i think its called ice box or something similar). I havn't personally experienced these intakes but friends have and say theyre great, plus theres great reviews about them everywhere on the net.

ECU: as the general rule goes an ECU is only as good as its tuner. If you already know which tuner you are going to use, i think it would be best to ask them which ECU they prefer/are most knowledgable in.
If your tuner has experienced only Hondata/Motec, then it might not be the BEST idea to go out and buy a power fc. But in saying that, Power FC is a great choice, very popular among hondas and if tuned properly ive seen great gains and great power curvers. Alot of it depends on your budget and your goals for the car.

Hope that helps abit, im sure a few more of the guys will jump on after me and give you more ideas to throw around.

btw - What area is Lane cove?

Lane Cove is near chatswood, up the road from North Ryde...

as stated above 3 inch is huge, chances are your losing power, our cars are so highly tune from the factory you have to choose mods qisely to make power
