hey guys can someone please clarify the difference between the following clutches ?

- Exedy standard clutch kit
- Exedy heavy duty clutch
- Exedy sports organic clutch kit
- Exedy sports ceramic clutch kit

im just wondering what would be the best option for a daily driver with a few power launches ones or twice.

i live near the city so traffic sometimes is a problem and riding the clutch cant be helped.

thanks

are you a chick or a guy?

some heavy duty clutches are very hard to push in, and in stop and go city traffic, would get annoying...

and if riding the clutch will be a problem, then dont go for a sports one

I currently have an Extreme ceramic clutch, pedal pressure is easier than some heavy duty clutches, however the clutch take up point requires higher revs from standstill and rev matching on downshifts to operate smoothly without shuddering.
If I had the choice again I'd go sports organic.

Your best options are probably standard or sports organic.

having an ek4 i'm assuming that your prob performance minded, so i would have to say sports organic. I've got one and i have to say it took a few drives just gettig use to how grippy it was. The cermanic ones are if you gonna rgun it every chance. The pretty much need to be launch or they shudder.

If you only want a normal drive just get a standard heavy duty, all the EK4s have them standard.

yea im more leaning towards organic heavy duty clutch.

whats the life expectancy on that roughly?

Heavy Duty I think is enough, not too heavy and not too light

depends on how you drive it, as a daily driving under normal circumstance
you should be able to get at least 5yrs+

This is just my experience..

Exedy heavy duty clutch

these are great for daily driving and the occassional track and have a similar feeling to stock. A nice upgrade from standard stock.

Exedy sports organic clutch

these also have a similar feeling to stock clutches but are also a good option for modified engines due to an increased clamp load. I much prefer this clutch set up. Not too much pedal effort as well.

Exedy ceramic clutches

mainly used for highly modded cars. I've driven a car with a ceramic clutch and they have to be pretty much launched or else they shudder. Both the exedy organic and ceramic clutches come with spring centre dampers to reduce impact onto the drive train however. With ceramic clutches, its highly recommended to avoid riding the clutch in order to reduce chatter as it greatly increases wear.

If your just going to be daily driving with the occassional launch here and there, i think the heavy duty or organic clutches will do just fine. Pedal efforts just take practice and after awhile almost feel like stock :)

I found ceramic clutches annoying in traffic as i practically had a dead leg. Im a girl tho btw so guys can proli take on more of a beating LOL

Hope this helps :)

Why not directly answering your question, have a look at this article - very informative:

So not much diff between heavy duty and sport organic? How are these compared to the exedy standard?

Hey DreadAngel

compared to exedy standard..

Heavy duty pedal feel is similar only about 25 percent more pressure (but this feeling may also be from practice and use). There's also less clutch slippage on high power, pickup is significantly improved.

Im not exactly sure about the major differences between HD and organic clutches as they really felt quite similar to me. My guess is that its something to do with the friction materials they use to counteract slippage - i could be wrong..

sport organic and cermentalic are both Heavy Duty clutches, it is just the the surface material is made from organic compund while the other is made of different meterial.

here is something from the EXEDY site:

EXEDY Organic Clutch

EXEDY racing clutches with organic friction materials utilize only premium materials to provide maximum resistance to slippage and burst.
EXEDY organic clutches can also handle modified engines due to the increased clamp loads.
Drivability with EXEDY organic clutches is similar to that of stock clutches.
Pedal efforts will be slightly higher due to the higher clamp loads.
As with all EXEDY clutch discs, EXEDY organic clutches feature high capacity spring center dampers designed to reduce drive train shock and impact.

EXEDY Cerametallic Clutch

EXEDY cerametallic clutches are designed to handle the abuse of high power modified engines.
EXEDY cerametallic friction material can handle much more slippage than stock type disc assemblies.
EXEDY cerametallic clutch discs feature spring center dampers to reduce the impact and shock loads placed on the drive train. This protects the transmission and the entire drive line system.
All EXEDY clutch discs are equipped with thin cerametallic friction material (approximately half the thickness of a stock disc).
Compared to other clutch discs with thicker friction materials, EXEDY's thinner layer of friction material reduces clutch disc inertia and improves transmission shift efforts and synchronizer durability.
As with any cerametallic clutch system, some compromise of startup drivability should be expected as compared to a stock clutch (i.e. chatter on light throttle, low rpm startup). This characteristic is considered generally acceptable in modified performance cars.

Thanks JDMiss and EK4R... I might look into the sports organic clutch kit...
