I want one like that but the higher model
dunno if it comes out in australia but theres one with bluetooth or something. When the phone rings it cuts off the music and plays the phone over the speakers.

You want the DEH-P9800BT (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069880_291147633,00.html)? Retails for $550USD but I will have to check my price. I have a few friends that want these too and a friend down there that wants a dvd/nav system so shipping can be combined if you guys want me to order some for you all.

There are 2 Australian delivered model which have Bluetooth.
First one being the DEH-P7850BT (http://www.pioneer.com.au/car_entertainment/cdtuners/dehp7850bt/index.html), this doesn't have the fancy colour OEL display, just the 'normal' blue one.
Second unit is the DEH-P9850BT (http://www.pioneer.com.au/car_entertainment/cdtuners/dehp9850bt/index.html), this one is the top of the range "consumer" model with the funky colour OEL display.

Those are the Australian delivered model, the US models do not have the '50' in the model number. Take for example the 9800BT and 9850BT essentially the same unit but one is a US one and the other an Australia delivered one. Australian delivered model will have warranty in Australia (unless it was purchased from ebay or someone who isn't an authorised pioneer dealer). It's best to check up details regarding warranty when making purchases.

I just had a look on the AuAudio website and I don't think it's a Pioneer warranty. It just states that there is a 1 year warranty if something goes wrong them you return it to AuAudio, meaning you have to shipping to WA rather than possibly someone local to you who might be an authorised Pioneer repairer.

I've heard stories of people purchases headunits from ebay and online places and did not get covered by warranty or overseas models which were not covered by an Australian warranty (meaning you want it fixed, you pay for it). But then again i've got a mate who purchased an Alpine deck from ebay and he hasn't had a hitch. Best of luck to ya in that regard.

One more thing, before you purchase the deck try to check it out in person. It may look mad in pictures but pictures can be edited. Have a play around with the deck see if you like the menu interface or the feel of the buttons. The big round knob on the Pioneer unit is used for volume but it's directional so it might not be that solid.

Damn straight. I can't count how many times people have bought a deck, along with me, and tried to use it and it sucks. Make sure you can navigate it and make sure you can read and understand the manual. If it is hard to follow it isn't the deck for you. In order to have the best listening pleasure with that deck you need to know how to set it up and if the manual doesn't help you will not enjoy it.

For the button it pushes in and out and rotates. It's stable, at least all my pioneer decks haven't failed, knock on wood, same with my customers.

From memory FM will work fine but you'll have issues with AM frequencies.

I can't see why it wouldn't. Do you run out of 87.5-108.0 on FM and 530-1700 on AM?

Apparently the frequency spacings are different.

I reckon the Pioneer top-end decks are relatively easy to tune, reason being the Auto EQ set up, using the microphone. It may be a tedious thing to do but honestly it is worth it. It is clearly explained in the manuals.

hey guyz, i was intending to get a new pioneer head unit for my car this week..
couldn decide which to get... :(

because the DEH-P7850BT, DEH-P8850MP and DEH-P9850BT are "basically the same"
all comes with the basic MP3/WMA/WAV which is standard for any unit these days

only differences between the units is the OEL display, bluetooth, and $Bling$ factor

Now, the thing is i dont mine buying any of the units
but money wise which unit is best worth ur bucks or should i go for other units

If you have a phone with bluetooth, and want handsfree for your car, then definately get that one. Integrated into your sound system. There looks to be only a couple of hundred dollars difference between them, which is about how much a good blutooth kit costs.
