i have two questions....
1) i have a euro and i always shift gear when about 3000rpm....jsut want to know if i shift later..like around 4K - 5K rpm....will it be bad for my engine ?

2) my car had done about 5000km ....i feel like the car is smoother and faster than it was about 2000km.....it is just my own illusion....or the engine really will get better when it run more?

sorry for these types of newbie queaion... :o

lamwaiyin, you should have posted this in the noob section imo

and imo i dont think its bad for you engine if you shift around 4k - 5k just dont bounce it off the redline

this thread should probably be in the noob section.

Anyway, if your only shifting at 3000, it sounds like you haven't used vtec yet?

There won't be any ill effects if you change at 4 or 5000 rpm.

As for the engine running in, yes as its a new engine your engine is run in now so should feel better than when you first purchased it. :D

If you have a new car then for the first 5,000 your supose to take it easy.
After that its fine.

Yes the car will drive better after 5,000km as the engine has been worn in and the pistons rings have have fully sealed giving proper compression

make sure to allow the motor to warm up completely before running it hard though

yes rip it to the redline and you will love it..
if you never stretch your car it will die young, just like us human, we need to exercise to keep us fit and live longer...

It's true, the occasional 'spirited drive' is actually good for the car, just not a thrashing.

theres a nood section?? where la?? :p

when running ur engine in, its a good idea to actually vary the revs.
dont limit your cars wear in period to jst one specific point of the rev range.

#1 important step is to WARM the engine up. Needle has to reach near the middle and stop raising.

#2 Don't misshift.

sounds like u havent read ur manual yet.....

coz ther are tables in there with recomended shift points and the max allowable speed for each gear(I had that in mine, so im assuming its in urs as well)

and yesl, the occassional "sprinted" drive will do ur car good, and it will do urself good as well as ull get to experience the awesome ride feel of a honda, thats wat i love bout my car...so fun to drive

Once the engine is warm, I occasionally shift from 2nd to 3rd at about 6000RPM. I love that VTEC rush. Then I press the brakes so I'm back to the *cough* legal speed limit and upshift to 5th.

Try it sometime once you've warmed up the car. :)
