Hands up if you have had your rear wheel bearing replaced by Honda due to a failure.

We had our 40,000kms service last week and they replaced the Right Rear wheel bearing assembly because the technician heard a squeeking noise from it.

Just wondering, is it worth getting it checked out if while changing springs u move the bearings out of place by quite a bit?

How do you know if the bearing is out... is there some sort of sound? irregular steering behavior???

has Honda fixed it yet? i've been curious what causes rear bearing failure on fwd cars...

It must be a quality control issue and Honda issued a TSB for dealers to check the bearings.

i had mine repaired at 50,000kms service.....mine were really bad...the noise inside the cabin was unbearable loud as you were driving the car.

Yeah it is quite a common problem. I haven't had a prob yet but then I've travelled less than 20,000km in less than 3 years. But I heard it in a mates car and it was just as Penguin described!

Might be an idea to get it back to Honda before the warranty is up later this year especially if they have issued a TSB - might have to look in to that.

the bearings are really small thats what my mech told me when i went for a drive with him after my car had been serviced.

I think I have to get mine checked aswell. I thought it was just noisy tyres. But i swapped the tyres into my stock ones and it's still doing that annoying humming... it's louder at certain speeds.

Yes my suspicions was right. It was the wheel bearing... passenger side rear... I got Hanny's to change it.

If you've changed springs...will the warranty be void if u bring it back for an inspectino for the wheel bearings??

They probably tell you that the wheel bearing broke cause of the lowered suspension and then they wont honour your warranty claim. That's why I just went straight to my mechanic instead.

but if u go straight to your mechanic, how did u claim honda warranty???

or can other mechanics do that??

i didnt claim warranty... i dont really care about warranty.. I dont think they going to honour it if they see my Jazz man... bhwawbhabhab.. I didn't bother.

I was surprised that they did my bearings under warranty because the Jazz is running on 16" wheels. Technically that increases the stress on the bearing because the tyres are wider and the track of the car has increased.

Carboy, how much did the bearings cost you?

racinghonda: $200

honda knows it's a common issue. they would have replaced it pretty much regardless of what wheels you are running.... however if it happened again due to large wheels or whatever then it would be on you

if STTICH can get his done on warranty pretty much anyway can ;)

His wheels arent that big :). I was also in the same boat as others mentioned. Took 2 days to get the bearings and the car was back together super fast (even though it is not a jazz).

I think the other bearings on our Jazz are going too. The car is noisy, sounds like loud tyres but it might be the bearings. I have Spoon springs on the Jazz though, I think I will swap the stock springs and wheel back in for the next service.
