b18a has some sort of meaning, cant remember exactly what the letters are for..
b 1.8lt a
Im not sure but i THINK it could be like this:
B - The series of engine (i.e. Can also get D, B, H, F, K etc)
18 - Obvious.. (Can get 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.4 etc) d15b, b16a, b18a etc
A - I THINK just to differentiate from other B-series 1.8lt engines (i.e. B18 A/B/C) Seems to go up alphabetically. Im not 100% on this one though.

B = B Series
18 = 1.8L (1834cc)
A = First gen
