It is recommended that you buy a lightweight flywheel instead of lightening an OEM one. Because you are shaving/drilling material off, it can become weaker.

most probably will become weaker.

its not cheap...
you can machine it.. but you must rebalance if you shaving alot off.. rebalancing is expensive.. machining is cheap

yeah definitely not worth the trouble. Stocko one is huge, don't think you'll be about to lighten it that much without stuffing it up.

I had 15% lightened off mine - my cousin organised it though lol.

ofcourse you can. But a OEM flywheel is cast afaik , so "lightening" will no doubt unbalance it. IMO its simply not worth the effort shaving a few grams as the saftey issue and hardly noticeable performance increase are factors to consider. Just spend abit more and buy a proper aftermarket lightweight in the first place :)

If it is cast, then machining will cause it to be more prone to cracking when under stress. And you know how much stress the flywheel is under when rotating at 8000rpm and the clutch is coming onto its face.....

cast?

never thought that would cast a plate of metal.. i thought casting would not allow such a solid face plate

i had mine lightened by about 3-4 Kg. My mate took a lot off metal off on his lathe and then i got it balanced for $50.

you could get the lighter ITR flywheel which is already about 2-3 KG lighter

not worth the troubles at all, it will make it very weak once completed and take it to a track for a day and itll all be in shambles if u have any extra power from the stock motor. just get a lighter fly and ill do trick
