Ever since i have swaped my D16 into my civic out of an 86 integra it had had a cold idle of aroung 2100rpm. This has always bothered me as i think it is way to high. and every ive asked has had teh same problem.

I have tried adjusting the idle valve on the rear of the manifold but that is the lowest it would go.
Today i finally fixed it so it has a nice 1200 rpm cold idle.

All you have to do is remove the top cover to the valve and push a rubber floor pulg into it which has a hole about 1/2 the size of the one in the middle of the valve.

Im very happy with how it runs now an thought some of you might like to try this if yours is idling high.

That's good to hear, but this should be in the DIY section.

Your car i supposed to idle higher when its cold.
Its the car's way of heatin up.
Depending on the type of car, the revs whilst warming should be around the 1500-2000rpm mark (roughly).
Once the car is at normal temp, the revs should drop back to about 1000rpm.

i know its suppossed to idle higher when cold but it hink 2100 is a bit too much. and when it gets to normal temp it still goes back to its normal idle.

Ill try to find some pics and post up a DIY for it.

It should idle at around 1500rpm when cold. If its idling higher, then you need to screw in the FITV valve located on teh side of the throttle body (On D Series engines). And also give the IACV filter/screen a clean, and the throttle body a good clean as well.

You should always fix the source of the problem, rather than simply change the idle by the idle screw because that can leed to problems later
