EG6 double din console fitting

I'm currently in the process off fitting an EG6 double din centre console but i've come across a hurdle.
i cant for the life of me remove the ciggy lighter from the old console. if anyone can give me some pointers i'd really appreciate it

haha but now i'm having electrical probs with it.
i have a shift light plugged into it and it ran the car flat and i had to push start it lol. this was while the car was parked overnight.
i'm thinking an earth isnt connected properly as the light which usually lights up around the ash tray isnt working
