Just wondering about those launch control things, from gizzmo I think it is?

Is it all they do, just do not let the revs go up when the clutch is in? On take off?

And what happens when the clutch is released?

If that is all it does, is it worth it? As certainly keeping steady rpm to launch with isn't hard?

launch control comes in many forms and is often referred to as 2-step/3-step.
it is basically an adjustable rev-limit controller. how it activates is different for every system. Hondata uses a clutch-switch which isa perfect way to do things. When the clutch is depressed and the speed is below a certain point, a specific (usually lower) revlimit will be in force, allowing full throttle and the car maintaining a specific RPM.

All other systems use differnt variations, such as some with only speed control or a allocated swiotch/trigger to turn it on and off.

what the guy above said, and then some;

the new m5 is a good example of an auto that has launch control which is basically press a button, floor the accelerator, the ecu decides how much traction it thinks you have, and maintains the appropriate rpm for an 'ideal' launch. when you tap the gear level its all over red rover

in a manual the principle is the same - the system holds the engine at a certain rpm, chosen by you, or it depending on the system in question, and you then release the clutch yourself.

personally i reckon launch control is for pansies, if you can launch well you deserve good 1/4 mile times, and to beat other cars off the lights (the lights at the race track, not on the road, mind you. that would be illegal:p ), if you cant launch, you dont and you should learn to drive better.

Pansies or not, without it u cannot build boost off the line without it. Every single 'drag' car has some form of launch control. Weather it be a stall convertor or ECU initiated anti-lag system.

So then,
You floor the car, while the clutch is pressed in, and the rev limit is say 3000rpm
And then what happens? You dump the clutch or sidestep it? And once the clutch is released does the engine get full power?

Is it worth it for a street car?
