I tried to search but couldn't find what i was after.

Basically trying to understand the difference between P08 and P28 OBD1 ecu's.

Are both compatible with the S200 upgrade?

Will either work with my B16A out of an EK4?

Is there any sacrifice made when going from OBD2 to OBD1?

Thanks for any info provided.

http://www.hondata.com/
will do the trick.
if ur gonna go the s200 and asking questions like this u may aswell just ring james from hondata right now. hes the only one who will be able to tune it for u unless u get the rommulator ect. or if u know someone with it.
the p08 is just apparently a small cased version of the p28 but the p28 is very popular with hondata upgrades.

looks like only a jdm p08 is compatible (P08J) with hondata so ur best bet is just find urself a p28 and start talking with james

Hondata can also supply u a wth a p28 but it does cost alot more doing it this way,
http://www.hondata.com/prices.html
Base s200 Unit with datalogging & 3 step rev limiter. $295 USD
P28 ECU with OBD2 Connector (no adapter harness required) $450 USD
(all in US prices)

Dont forget tuning costs about 600AUD
and if u wish to get ur tuner to tune it the romulator $360USD

cheapest way would be find urself a cheap 2nd hand p28 for about 200AUD
and a conversion harness from boomslang usa http://www.boomslang.us/obd2to1.htm 80USD
and then get the hondata s200 unit through http://www.hondata.com/prices.html or james. for apporx 300USD
u will also need an adapter harness from hondata which is 150USD if u buy the p28 from another source than hondata

this is nothing but a rough guide on price, best consult james and he can either direct u towards one of his many shops aus wide or might even help u himself.

CUL8R you’re a little incorrect with your above statements.

James AKA BLKCRX is the pioneer of Hondata in Australia, he helped develop the technology along with America for it to be compatible with Australia ecu’s for the past 8 years here in Australia. He and his fellow workmate are driving force for Hondata technology development in Australia. He is directly in charge of 9 workshops throughout Australia, he is the so called CEO of Hondata out here in Australia,. His dealers around Australia who are recognized as being the best workshop in each and every state are his local tuners. James is directly responsible for all importing and warranty and technology support if dealers can’t sort out issues him self.

James has personally trained many tuners around Australia, and is the sole reason why Hondata now has a huge representative out here in Australia, without what James has setup and achieved we wouldn’t have any dealers or support for such a wonderful product. He is not the sole person who can tune Hondata, its just everyone likes him to tune as after all he is the pioneer of the technology.

Major workshops around Australia who James has directly trained and supports are, Toda Racing, Red Line Motorsports, Razztech Performance, Corydon Racing, Advance Performance Centre, Rev Zone, Inspire motor sports, Hobart Performance and even my self DNA Racing !

I highly suggest calling one of the above workshops close to you, or contacting James directly who will put you in contact with the people you need to talk to, or even better yet join www.hondatech.com.au (http://www.hondatech.com.au/) and ask questions there ! James is always more than happy to help and goes out of his way for customer support.

jimmeh, yeah i realise he is australias CEO of hondata and yes witrhout him hondata in australia would be stupidly limited!
if u are serious i reccomended giving him a call and yes obviously his shops, but as i never got to that stage i didnt mention that kinda stuff,
i am getting my stuff through another source because my situation was a little difficult because when u get hondata through james either himself or one of his shops has to do the tuning, The s300s very easiliy tuned and my tuner has done many a tune after james and a fair few initial setups with the s300, i dont want anyone touching it unless its him.

the prices i gave were clearly nothing but a guidline and the information i got was all from the http://www.hondata.com/ site and additional reading.

reading back i think i forgot about the adapter harness u need if u buy ur own p28 first.

You must understand that the reason why only Hondata certified tuners can tune these units is because they are 100% ADR compliant. If you get an un-authorised tuner, you cannot engineer your car, legally.

Are you referring to the S300?

I recall reading somewhere a while ago the S300 will never be ADR compliant because it does allow end user tuning.

I just reluctantly purchased an S300,with this playing on my mind, but i did want to get someone else to tune it.If what u say is true I will consider getting it tuned by a Hondata rep.

Does anyone know if an ECU chipped from overseas (say US) will work in our Australian delivered cars?

Parts seem a lot cheaper to import vs buying locally.... just not sure if they are one and the same... or if local tuners will provide any support.

Ahh.. there goes that idea.

Ok... well looks like i'll have to drop into a workshop to discuss options.
