Engineers are your friend. It's legal if it comes with an engineer's certificate (you will also need to upgrade brakes, suspension and drivetrain).

basically if you get the brakes and all that sorted, there is only one other thing.

Omissions!!

its kind of hard to engineer, and apparently its a sh*t fight for a pay out if they see it doesn't meet omissions ...

If you buy a half/front cut (whatever you may call it) it should come with the brakes as well. And all you will need to do is an EFI conversion (if you have a GL or Breeze model) and also maybe upgrade the rear brakes if you have drums.

Then after the conversion, go get an engineers certificate for it and it will become legal :)

Mitch: "omissions" means to leave something out... I think you mean "emissions" :D:D:D

make sure the engine being transplanted into the car is the same age or newer than the engine it came with.

All EGs in Aus came in 1.5L anyways?!?!?!

Yes I totally forgot about this. the engine that you are swapping in must be of same year or newer. It cannot be an older engine.

mo: Si and VTi EGs were 1.6 as I recollect.

Legality is not just taken on capacity but power output increases as well. Basically the car's chassis, drivetrain and brakes/handling remain effective with the power upgrade. I'd forgotten the engine age caveat too - it's a good one to remember for those that think a 1st gen B16A is a good swap into an EG (which was powered by the 2nd gen B16A in Japan).

If a first gen motor is used instead of a second how could they possibly tell? couldn't you just lie?

As long as engine is newer or same age as car - apparently

1st gen JDM B16 in the EF8/9 SiRs and the 'teg XSi is a B16A -it just has that stamped on the block.
1st gen Euro B16 (150bhp) in the EE8/9 VT (same 4th gen SiRs) has B16A1 stamped on the block.
EG SiRs had B16A2 stamped on the block as did the 3rd gen CRX.
EK4 SiRs had B16A3 (or so I'm led to believe - anyone want to confirm or deny with their Aussie VTiR?).

Easy to tell really.

Hmmm - I just did a google search on "B16A3", lots of links on the 'net stating that the B16A3 (OBD1) came out in the 93-94 USDM Del Sol.

Must just be a yank thing - I'll look ino the JDM side of it tonight.
