View Full Version : What are the most recommended mods for Accords?

Hi guys, obviously the Honda Accord range is the top-class range from Honda...it's suppose to be a luxury vehicle not a sports vehicle - although some may argue the Euro is the replacement for the Prelude... was just wondering, what are the top 3 mods most people would do for an Accord - any year for that matter...

I would like to start off...

1. Dump the suspension and get better, larger rims and wheels.

2. I would add some foglights onto the vehicle (if there's currently none).

3. I would get a nice bodykit for it!

any other suggestions, as I want to mod my 1998 Honda Accord V6-L.

In your other thread you rave about the ride quality of the v6-l and say the euro felt too harsh and bumpy for you... now you want to dump the suspension and get larger rims? This will be detrimental to the ride quality.

The v6-L is perfect stock why would you even want to change anything

If I was to purchase a 6th gen V6 Accord this is what I would do. I've spent a couple weeks researching the vehicle.

1) New intake. Like I said in the other thread, the J series sounds awesome with a CAI or short ram at WOT.

2) Lower it a couple inches (as with every fricken honda - way too high!)

3) 17's.

4) Bodykit or just a lip kit.

5) Tints

Once that is done then look at headers, full exhaust replacement (cat back alone makes no performance difference), and other engine performance mods.

Don't dump. You'll reduce your ride quality and it will become harsh.

If you just get springs to dump it, then your shocks will leak in about a year's time and you'll have to replace them. So get lowered shocks as well.

Guys lets keep the player hatin out :)

1. CAI
2. Slight lowering - 1.5" max. anymore and it'll be a bitch to drive like now and Classy wheels (I decided to pair them up!)
3. Mild sound system that looks stock but isn't.

My 2c :) With a bit of sensibility and coordination, any accord can look great.

Yeah, I agree bro - sometimes simplicity with a touch of uniqueness does the job... I got a friend that has just modded his Euro...damn, it over did it...spend heaps of cash on the mods...lowered wheels, new sports suspension, huge rims, foglights, neon lights 'everywhere' and even had a new lip put on...yeah, it looks nice...but to me, it looks to modded...a bit like over-made up if you will...

Whereas I have another friend - he's got a 2000 Honda Accord V6 (I think)... all he did was change the rims (not lowered) - thinner tyres, put in a super sound system, got some tint done and wow - it looks mad...sometimes, simplicity does the job - agree peoples?

Thanks mate, I would have to agree with you 100%...

Either don't dump or dump it right with new shocks and suspension...a mate of mine did it the less professional or 'regardless' why and whilst in his car...oh my god, you're definitely right, it feels like you're in a rocket or a truck riding on rough rocks or something...

I would just get new rims and wheels...done, full top...cars are built for specific needs... Luxury, off-road or sports etc...don't bend the fender!

IMO - if you get aftermarket rims on an accord you must lower it. Accords (and almost all hondas) are way too high from factory.

5th gen was the worst, 6th gen a little bit better, 7th gen about the same as the 6th.

razaman, thanks for the advice,

Currenly the circumstances are against me getting my ride lowered.
eg. live in country town, bad roads, harsh speed bump, and shocking driveways.
also, i'm on my L's untill 17th (woot hopefull pass). and as such have very often myself and dad in car, and other times 3 others, my dad and i arnt small blokes and with another 3 people in the back, it's a lowwwww rider anyway :P

so untill, eithier the town gets better roads, or everyone i no losses 60kg each, i think lowering my car would cause me to leave pieces of it at ever drive way, speed bump, etc

but will lower it when circumstances are better. eg once on P's and have the money (no passengers then).

Yeah, I agree with you Raz... the 6th was indeed a bit betta, but you're right... Honda cars (due to their thrive for luxury) is a bit high as opposed to cars like the Subaru for example!

Bro, I used to drive a V6-L - very comfortable ride indeed! One of honda's very finest you did well for your first car bro if not very good!

I think someone here posted a thread saying that the above vehicle is perhaps honda's best. wouldn't say best ever, but certainly amongst the greatest!

thanks mate, always good to hear you mate a good choice when buying a first car, was a tough choice. was actually looking at getting a lude but the 97+ were a few k to much, and the older 92-94 are so nice, but hard to get finance for, and are getting alittle old. and the hatch's well i'm just not a hatch guy, be like a a WWF wrestler getting into a a mini cooper :p

(no offence older honda ownwers, just my opionion in what i was looking for in a car)

so was pretty much left with the classy comforatable 98 Accord, just happend they only had the V6-L there when i wanted to buy.

thanks again guys.

No worries bro, yeah, don't worry, the 1998 Accord is a good vehicle. Besides the 2000 V6-L and the 2005 (don't like the 2006's look), the 1998 and 1999 V6-L stands out. What's more, the V6-L still looks good, classy and very elegant for its age. You have done very well. Does yours have spoiler and twin exhuasts at the back? if you have the above noticable items, then it's the 50th anniversary edition - even better.

yes it has the rear spoiler, and twin exhusts. (one comes out on the left, and one one the right of the car) what a noob thing to say :p

is there any other way to be 100% it's the 50th anniversary edition?

I'd say just lower it (say 1.5-2 inches) and put some nice 18" rims on it (with decent tyres ofcourse!). Mod the sound system to make it pump! Keep the intake/exhaust stock to keep the peace.

I modded my (now sold) 1989 Legend (which is a luxo car like the V6-L) with the above, and trust me, lotsa people took notice! I changed the muffler as too but I regretted doing that as it made the car too loud, it isn't really fitting with the luxury/cruising nature of the car... just my 2c! :)

If you do decide to go for bigger rims, then lowering is sort of a must, otherwise it will look more like a 4x4. Hehe.

hmm 4x4 look, that would be diffrent :p

maybe should lift it up instead of dropping it down :p

thanks for the advise guys.. but looks like i'm going the carputer root first. I'm a Computer Nerd at heart. Computer programmer/Network Engineer by trade.

Nice list Dray_templar, All i've done is change the stock speakers to clarion 6" slimlines in teh front and pioneer 6x9 in the rear and it sounds 10x better than stock. doesnt have the bass that i'd like from a sub, but its good enough for me to keep and not spend anymore money on the car.

i no what you mean, about not really needing the sub, dads got a nice sound system set up in his car, and no sub. sounds great.

It's just one of those things i been promising myself since i left school/Higher education (get nice car, and kick arss sounds system).

I agree with that 101%. If you dump it, get some shocks that match the lowered springs. Lower springs with stock shock are no go.....absolutely ruins the ride, unless you value looks over everything else. I'm in the process of changing my lowered springs back to stock cos I value the comfortable ride of the Euro but too poor for aftermarket shocks. Luckily my oem shocks are still alive according to Pedders. Gotta learn some things the hard way :(.

Best mods for the Accord?? Sway bars. For any FWD car, stiffer sways are the best mod. Doesn't cost too much and it does something useful. Better tyres and better brake pads are worthy mods too. I recommend these mods for any car, not just the Accord. Visuals and ICE are all up to induviduals. Set of lightweight rims that's not 18"+ and chrome would be ideal.
