hey people.
i've got a EG, with a d16y4 motor and a d16y4 auto box
now what do i have to get to do a manual conversion?
the list i have so far is

* manual box
* manual box mount
* clutch lines
* clutch master cylinder
* brake and clutch pedal assembly
* shift linkages + lever
* clutch and flywheel

would i have to change my ECU and driveshafts?

cheers all.

Drive shafts should be the same in both manual and auto. The ecu was made for auto and will still try to read the tranny and control it. Yes you need a ecu from a manual. Or you can deal with cels and other big issues.

how much would it cost to do the conversion?

you will also need manual flywheel bolt because auto ones are shorter..

We charge about $2-5k USD but that includes parts and labor. It also depends on what needs to be replaced and any unforeseen issues. It also depends on the car/truck.

I reckon just sell it and start over again with a manual car

eh, don't want to do that.
the reason i am askin, is because i am able to get my hands on a cheap box.
and want to know what else is involved.
eg, work outs costs and all.

Don't people usually convert their cars from manual to auto and not vice versa? Honestly I'd be changing cars too if I was in this situation. Not worth the conversion costs and time in my opinion.

i thought it was meant to be reasonably simple to convert. for a mechanic anyway.
i am interested in a conversation for mine as well cos i can get all the running bits of a manual for the cost of a case of beer.
and i can sympathise with wanting to convert and not get a new one.

I know it may not be completely necessary, but a new cluster you may want to remove the P R N D 2 1 lights...

To me it seems as if you have pretty much all thats needed in the list. I cant think of anything other. Fluid for the clutch is another extra little cost.

Im wondering how cheap the gearbox is you can get??
It may just about be better to do a complete engine swap. Depending on what you want and how much this gearbox/conversion will cost you.

Either way, good luck and keep us posted how you go, dont often hear of auto -> man conversions.

Basically what i was trying to say above is..
Although the gearbox may be cheap, is it worth it for what its going to cost to install it and along with the cost of the other various parts??

After all, its going to be the same car with a manual box rather than auto. Its not as if its a huge performance upgrade or anything like that. Personally, id rather spend the extra on buying a manual b16a/b18c cut and throw that in so you got a better engine and manual trans.

well i'm only hopin to spend around $500.
labour will be practically free.
but i just wanted to get everythign straight before i go ahead and do it.

ive just sold on a conversion "kit" for a B series engine ( all stuff off an dc2R) ~ and basically its as you described Jonnie...you need to drill / mod the firewall for the clutch slave and piston etc too i believe.

your list is repretty much complete..
the hole in the firwire shouldnt be an issue as there are markings for it already....

your ecu has pin outs for auto g/box...but im sure you can make it work..

It might be cheaper getting a front half-cut with all the bits and pieces you need, including the ECU.

But if I was in this situation, I would sell the car and buy a later model such as a manual EK or a DC2 ;)

johnno dont think its to bad to do the conversion considering u have most of the parts and labour is for free and if u really love to keep ur car,but you also should consider getting a new car and just starting all over.i guess it all comes down till which will benifit u more.
if it was me dude, i would start over and knowing u the car will turn out very nice.lol

If you have the time and energy to do it, id reccomend it. Just make sure you DIY section it! :p

Changing from auto-man in any car is an uneasy task though, just take a look at the price of a manual soarer out there!

Good luck mate
