I own a 1996 Honda Civic EK1 Hatch and so far have done intake and an exhaust and i, like most are getting sick of the lack of power. Ive been throwing up some ideas but cant settle on one.

I will on a budget of about $4000 - $5000 (depends on what it is and how much more power it will give me. I wont be far off getting it done, depends on what i can find and how long it takes to save some more money)

I also want it to run about 14sec at the most!

And it will be a daily driver.

Idea 1: The engine has done 160,000kms so i have thought of a rebuild with stronger internals and a turbo kit. I seen one do a 13.885sec run, but im not sure about the other mods that were done.

Idea 2: Get a B16A2 engine transplant, but ive heard that they still arent "that" fast. As a few mates have SSS but i want it to easily beat them.

Idea 3: Will a B18C2 be able to drop in as the build date is older then mine? Has anyone done it or heard about it being done?

Can someone please help me, i need some serious help.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks for the ideas (in advanced)

just slap a turbo kit on it, you'll be able to beat more then just a b-series
pm me for further details

yeh just turbo it, would be the best bang for buck power increase
even if u just run a low boost setup, with the stock engine

I just heard about a nice b18 swap that was going for $4700 installed. Let me know if you want more details.

non vtecs are easier to tune and cheap and plentiful if u blow it up.

Yeah but as im only 18 i dont want the insurance to be too much. Thats why im not real keen on a turbo, and just a question about them, as egsi said "if u blow them up" how likely would it be to blow one up? Even with 6-7psi?

I also wanted something not much bigger then the 1.6lt, thats why i wanted the B16a. How much NA power can you get out of one including the usual I/H/E?

u'll only blow ur motor if u've had a bad tune, if u dont know what ur doin leave it to the pro's
getting power out of an n/a motor is not easy, or cheap. stock b16a pulls out about 80-95kw@wheels, depending on conditions and dyno. with full exhaust including extractors, and CAI, ur probly looking at about 100kw@wheels
u should do an online insurance quote, see how much it extra if u wack on a snail, dont think its that much more

How would it be on fuel tho? would it be alot more, because atm i fill up 1.5 times a week which is about 700 Kms, i dont want to be doing much more then that.

lol wanna modify but dont wanna pay for fuel
once u start modifying the engine, it will naturally use more fuel
if u dont wanna spend money on fuel then leave the car the way it is

i agree

its not that i dont want to pay for fuel, but if im travelling 700kms + per week, i dont want to be spending $150 on fuel. I just wanted to know how much more it will cost me if im paying alot more for petrol a week or not.

Back to square one.

Turbo - cost me too much per week to run

B16a - not that fast and over rated.

Anymore ideas???

Fit a jet engine in the back as a second motor. Great mileage and power when you need it :P

Dude you really have covered the only two options.
Swap or turbo.

Both are going to increase your fuel usage. At least with turbo you can try to stay out of boost (like that’s going to happen) and not use as much fuel.

Option 3 is buy a second car for weekends and swap/turbo that or buy a daily driver and swap/turbo your current car.

LOL seriously, what makes you say that? No NA motor is going to be a killer dragster without spending squillions. If you're into circuit racing, then I think the b16a has more than enough power to be competitive.

Look at your whole package... not just the motor.

no you wont'. my ek does 14.6 with a B16 with just bolt on mods. I would love to see any SSS beat that without opening the engine.

thats pretty good. congrats.

is that with the SiR b16 engine?
Thats more powerful then the normal b16 out of the vti-r isnt it? If so how much? do you have an estimate of how many kws your car is?

Yes it's an SiR engine.
Yes it's 10hp more than VTiR
Cost just depends on condition and where you get it from
No idea of kw's, y you need to know anways. 14.6@95mph is more accurate than any kw reading.
