hi,
After selling my S2000, im planning to start on my new project car, but was wondering if this is a good price. i got quoted $6500 for a K20A engine fitted and running gears.
i would like to know if this is a good price or too much.
motor and running gear will be fitted to a EG civic.
also would like to know if this is legal and would be register for everyday use.

thankz
ps mods can move if in the wrong section

euro69
04-07-2006, 09:44 PM
well it wasnt my first choice.
i was after the 1.8 type r motor but he didnt have them in stock.
was given a choice of the 1.6 vtec for $3500 fitted and running gears or $6500 for the K20A+running gear.
but firstly i had to see if it was a good price or not.

That is an excellent price. I was told to dump one of these into an ek you would be looking in the region of 10g's +.

thankz for all the help ppls.
since everyone says it dirt cheap, i've decided to go ahead and get the motor and running gear first.
all i need to do now is to find a decent EG civic to buy.
once the S2K is gone i will be able to buy the EG.
what price range are they going for.

prices can be too good to be true :)
I see alot of shortcuts in this process ~ the engine + halfcut goes for more like $6-8k...let along labour + custom mounts + etc etc etc...

K20A's are 162kw and 206nm stock.
as for modded depends on what you put on obviously but like all k-series they do respond well to mods.

is it a JDM K20A?... coz as far as i know AUDM ones are 147kw at the fly

matt
07-07-2006, 11:09 AM
jusging by the discussion and that his mate owns an import place i would say its a JDM motor, though i could be wrong.
im well aware AUDM are 147kw, i have one hehe...

Paul1985

its gonna cost you more than $6.5.
He is obviously selling the half-cut and maybe labour for that price.
You will need heaps of little things like:
-mounts prob $800
-axles prob $300
-pnp harness prob $300
-brake upgrade ??? $1000?
-ECU Kpro = $1000+

It will very soon add up, but well and truely worth it.

It wont cost you just $6.5, and this price is good, but i doubt its a K20AR so its no a huge bargain. 8-10k you should expect to pay for a JDM K20AR, so an AUDM K20A would be cheaper than $8k you would expect.

Nonetheless, great price and deal and worth doing if you have more money to throw at the swap. The result will speak for itself :)

i highly dought that u can get a JDM k20 in an aussie car, jap motorz are supposed to run on 110octane petrol i think

the highest we can get here is 98octane, therefore leaving a JDM spec k20 out of the question, as the JDM motor will have different compression and tuning and will probably be damaged if forced to run on 98ron

one can of course buy 98ron and mix it with some other substance(cant remember from chemistry) and achieve a 110 octane petrol but that will be a very expensive and bs option

xtercii

Supposedly 100 octane in japan, heaps of jap import cars and engines running hard in oz on 98 octane for years without any problems. Where did you get 110 from, that’s like racing fuel.

Limbo
07-07-2006, 03:06 PM
Jap cars run 100ron generally, i put my last jap spec engine in and ran it on optimax and it was fine. You would get more performance out of 110ron if you were able to consistently mix it.

theres a few guys here running k20a's in there cars, and the K20A is designed to run on 100octane fuel so its not really an issue.

of course, krogoth, you forgot to take into account RB20DET, RB25DET, RB26DETT, SR20DET, 4G63's from Japan that all seem to have NO problem running on optimax after they've been imported, why shouldn't a K20A honda?

I mean, its not like there's boost being crammed into it.

well, u have a point

but the JDM spec DC5R came with around 160kw, and the AUDM DC5R came with 147kw i think, and thats lower coz we dont have 100ron here

sure ull get away with it, i dunno, i just thought coz honda released an engine with a lower power output here coz of the fuel, ud think it woodnt be wise to bring a JDM engine and run it on aussie fuel

but then as u mentioned all the other nissan engines u mentioned above can run on our fuel no problem and they turbo not NA, meh, zomg, lol, i got ownd

WhiteAP1

We do have 100ron on pump, Optimax Extreme. And u can always buy octane additive

there were more reasons we got the 147kw motor than just fuel quality, cost being one as to why we didn't get full jdm spec.

the engine just has to be tuned to run on lower grade fuel, guys in the states do these swaps and they have even worse fuel that we do, their premium is like 91ron or something like that.
