View Full Version : Weight Reduction
Hey guys!
Just wondering what i should do to reduce the weight in my 5th gen lude. It still needs to be "street worthy" tho and I am not ken on removing the spare. Any suggestion are appreciated.

and dont bulk up on the protein....muscles weigh more than fat remember!
Thanks guys!
I have been looking into a CF bonnet, but don't know if it will look as good on a black car? Anyone got pics of a black lude with CF bonnet?
I don't think i'll be getting rid of the AC or radio tho, they're essentials in a daily drive.
Does a lightened flywheel cost much?

CF are not always lighter, I've seen some of the STI wrx ones and they are lighter than the carbon fibre ones. Also be careful as most of the carbon fibre ones from the traders are only top carbon fibre and not as light.
anway remove rear seats take things out from glove box, take out the carpet etc..

just leave ur car dude
preludes are luxury cruisers
if u want to lighten anything just put nice light wheels on it, no chrome blingy ones.... im sure if u start taking out stuff ur gonna hear alot of rattles and road noise, it will get quite annoying...

Go lightweight rims first.... The effect of light weight rims is more than even a flywheel! By lightweight I mean forged rims. They cost about $3000, rims alone.

1kg in rims is equivelant to 10kg in dead weight. so save 1kg a wheel = 40 kg less
get big chrome 18s and add alot of kg

convertibles are actually heavier than their hardtop equivalents.. due to extra reinforcement to counter chassis bending..

i believe it's illegal..
only legal once u register your car as a 2seater..

well then cut ur fkn roof off
Thanks again for the input guys... :D
it seems the way to go judging on your replies are to use the lightweight rims. Would the stock rims do fine?
But with the car needing to be "street worthy" [ie. still be a decent lookin lude with luxuries and all; can't rip out seats/floor/ac/radio], maybe i should spend my efforts on upgrading the power instead?
Any suggestions on good power mods without having to crack open the engine block? I've currently got a 2 1/4inch catback exhaust with cannon.
Thanks again

if ur gonna stick to budget mods do the usual intake/headers/exhaust
u can then move further with a basic piggyback unit like a vafc2
then if u wish to pursue further u can go intake manifold and throttle body(not cheap)
then u have options like underdrive pulleys, upgrade ignition leads and plugs
going a lil further u then have standalone ecus (expensive)
by this point u have explored alot there is that doesnt involve BIG money
u can still explore stage one cams that do not require upgrading the valve trains.

tell me, how is the front and back of a car usually joined together? OH its with the chassis and roof! what happens when you take one of those two key components away? OH you lose rigidity and encounter chassis flex!
I doubt you'd notice yourself going any faster by removing small amounts of weight for daily driving, you'd be better off doing the I/H mods now and gaining more power!
