I got my 85 civic dynoed today,
It has a D16A3 engine out if a 86 teg in it. The engine has been rebuilt and is completly stock except for a K&N panel filter in the stock box.

It put out 90HP or 67.5Kw atw.

This is pretty much what i was expecting.

Heres the graph

http://www.redpepperracing.com/gallery/d/149073-2/Stock+Dyno.jpg

Today i also picked up some extractors for $100, they need a bit of porting to match the head since their for a different engine but look pretty good. Ill get it dynoed again after to see of they make a differance.

congrats on the figures, how much did it cost you to get it dyno'd?

thats not bad for a 85 civic.

how does she go ?

Hey that's pretty good. Looks like you are running very rich up top, if you get a SAFC2 you would have some gains by tuning the AFR. Keeping the AFR at 12.5:1 at the richest will yield some gains for sure. From about 128kph your engine is running too rich, a SAFC2 plus some dyno time with a decent tuner and you could gain maybe ~5kw . . .

THanks Guys

Nerv: It cost $50 to get in dyno'd at JD Customs in Wetherill Park.

ECU_MAN: It goes pretty good, it should run a low 15s 1/4 mile hopefully, ill find out in the next month or so hopefully.

Racinghonda: I noticed it was runing rich, instrad of a SAFC im probable going to try and get a D16A8 ECU and Distributor and wire all that in because them ECU's can be chipped and tuned and it will also remove the vaccume ingnition advance and replace it with electronic which shoutd also help to make more power.

Add another second... B16 delsol would be lucky to hit that time, and thats with almost double power at wheels

My friend who had the exact same car with the same engine but had a 2" enhaust ran a 15.2 on his and with the stock engine a 16.4. These civics only weigh 800kg remember.

If i can find a helmet by next wednesday hopefully ill give her a run at WSID and see what it can do.

I dont live in nowra anymore ive moved to wollongong, and i was going up to sydney anyway to pick up a set of extractors and i found out it was only $50 for a power run so i thought i might as well get it done.

Yes i did the swap myself, ill post up some pics of it later on today.

not bad for a motor that only puts out 118HP stock! :)

I think mid-high 15s are more within the range of this motor. I put out 102HP from the D16A8 and that gets me 15.8s. given the 85 hatch can be a little lighter I think thats around the figure you'd expect.

any mods to your d16a8 to put out that figure, and is that at the wheels? i got an a8 in my g1 integra, and i'm trying to confirm a figure at the wheels

also, of the 3 chassi (civic, crx, integra) would i be right in saying that the integra would be the heaviest?

SINISTR
07-07-2006, 01:14 PM
i have intake, RS*R headers and a redone exhaust with a LUKEY turbo muffler or what ever they are. and yes - thats 102 at wheels.

I think you'd be correct - teg would be the heaviest. Very close between the Civic/CRX i think the hatch civic being just a 'touch' lighter even than the crx.

Fat_85_civic - sorry about hijacking your thread here.

You're forgettin that this car weighs a lot less to the del sol...

And as saxman said, theres no such thing as a stock b16 that pulling 120ish kw atw.
k20's dont even pull that much stock!

4th gear? Aren't you meant to run in 3rd?

SINISTR

4th gear? Aren't you meant to run in 3rd?

there is a good debate around that I think... technically any dyno should be run in 4th because 4th gear is final drive ration to 1 which gives the most accurate output figure - 3rd will give a higher torque value but in my opinion not the accurate output figure.

I dynoed my GENONE once - and its an AUTO... so they did it in 2nd gear instead of drive. fk all indication of wht the power is.

not all the time man, my car i believe was dyno'd in 4th.
not too sure why tho.

cheers mate, that means i should have something inbetween 90-102hp atw. excellent

looks like my integra is goin to have to go on a diet as well

SINISTR

yeah - that sounds about right :) alot also depends on the dyno, the atmospheric conditions etc. so don't get too stressed if you get 90 as on another dyno you may get 95 and on a different day you may get 105...

yeh, i'm not too stressed atm, but hopefully i'm going to make it to the dyno day thats coming up in syd, so i'd like to have a guesstimate to start off with. i'm in an auto as well, so it'll be interesting what gear they reckon i should be in

Sinister: D16A3's put out 125HP stock i thought. an di got the times mixed up before it was 16.2 and 15.4 so if i get in the 15's ill be happy with the crappy tyres i have at the moment. Did your crx come stock with that motor or did you swap it? I didnt think crx's were sold in australia.

Quikteg: How did you get a d16a8 in your teg? Did you make custom mounts for it?

thats what I thought as well but its been said D16A3 are 118HP. D16A8 are 124HP and ZCs are 130hp.

yeah - I recon you will easily get 15s with a good launch, good shifts and top terminal speed of around 140km/h.

My gen1 crx came with the motor standard. Its an AS model, same as Si CRX which came out in 85. Its one of a kind here in WA at least being an 84 and having a dohc motor factory. all gen1s were imports so you're right... never sold here.

the d16a3 is definatly rated at 125, the american verson of the same engine , the d16a1 is rated at 118.

Ive tested my car out on a piece of road around here that is maked out for 400m and i hit aroung 145 so ime definaltly hoping for mid 15's.

hey luke, since you swapped the engine, did you still have to engineer it and also put on a cat?

fat_85_civic
12-07-2006, 10:54 AM
no i didnt have to have it engineered since it is less than a 20% increase in capacity and i didnt have to modify and mounts to make it fit, but to change the engine number over on the rego papers i had to get a blueslip, im not sure if i HAD to do this but i got defected for a loud exhaust before i'd changed it over and the coppers made me get a full blueslip inspection before i could clear the defect and while the mechanic was checkin my car out he realised it wasn't the stock engine so he did the form and stuff up for me to get the number changed over.

you got lighter chasis , try to break the 14s.

hey qikteg
i think you might still have a d16a3 in there because the d16a8 had evectronic timing advance and the d16a3 hav vacuume, and it looks like your car has vaccume advance. Also on a8's the valve cover bolts are around the out side not in the middle. Have you checked the engine number?

qikteg

i had a glance the other day to try and confirm what exactly it was..

i guess the 3 could have looked like an 8 (it was pretty scungy) i'll confirm tonite, it could very well be an A3

being the case that it is an A3 would actually be quite beneficial for me, cos it means that i can use your figures as a more accurate benchmark, and aim for the same figures that you are

ahhh ... cool. Yeah - thats all I wanted to know - as it seemed a bit 'unrealistic' for an EG in street trim with IHE to make that time. I knew you had to have something 'extra' in that car.
