We have a 2004 Accord V6 with the stock 205/60/16 tyres and stock rims. We want to get wider tyres but keep the stock rims. Will it be possible to swap the 205/60/16 tyres with 225/55/16 tyres? Will the 225 width fit safely on the stock rims?

If you let me know the rim width I can help you - and I presume the reference to 15 above is a typo - ie the rims are 16" - probably same as the Euro 6.5". If you look on the inside of the rim that would help

Sorry, yes that should read 205/60/16. I don't know what the rim width is though...and it is too dark to check tonight. I'll try to find out in the meantime.

Ok - well I am pretty sure it would be 6.5". In any event check it out.

For that tyre size the minimum width is 6" so yes you can get the 225 tyre to fit.

Optimum rim size for that tyre would be 7" but the tyre shops will still fit it if it is above the minimum and below the max rim width.

You are changing rolling diameter - but it is bugger all difference - 0.2%.

**edit - come to think of it - euroaccord13 is running a 225/50 on his 6.5" rims (16inch). So there you go - further proof it fits ok.

yfin - That's great news! Thank you for your advice.

euroaccord13 - if you are reading this, care to provide some feedback on this size tyre on your stock rims?

yfin is spot on...

I run 16 x 6.5 DC5R wheels and I have fitted 225/50R16, the minimum width of the rim to fit 225 needs to be at least 6.5 inches..

I do have to let you know, it will make the wheels look like drag wheels lol coz it's fat... :D

Handles better but ... BUT... weighs more due to the size of the tyres lol...

Here are the photos...

Looks awesome. Are those the Yoko C Drives? How do you find them?? Are they quiet? Coz I am considering those for my sister's Getz in 195/50/15 size as she is due for new tyres too.

BTW I thought 225/55/16 would be the correct replacement size for the Accord, rather than 225/50/16?

Sorry my bad forgot to tell you that our diameter between both cars are different, your diameter is bigger than the Euro as the Euro runs 205/55R16 so 225/50R16 is optimal for the Euro, as for your wheels, yes you are correct, it needs to run 225/55R16...

I run Pirelli Dragons from their Ultra High Performance range... Extreme handling and cornering capability in the dry (massively fat cornering groove). Good wear rate too, I believe it is 350/400 for the wear rate. Handling in the wet is good, not too bad for a car driven on it's front wheels LOL.... I won't say the wet handling is the best in the World but it's good...

The thing is, you need to research your tyres.. Every company will tell you their tyres have "exceptionally" good wet handling, only user reviews will tell you what the majority think of the tyres :)
