what are compliance plates?
If I am not mistaken, compliance plates are 'plates' on the car that contain specific vechile identification codes like vin etc.
I am not sure what can be done. Maybe contact the cars prior owner or contact your state road authority?

Compliance plates indicates to registering authorities that the vehicle has been shown to comply with the ADRs - in other words, road worthy.
edit: Where are you from? Differs from state to state.
In NSW it isnt mandatory to have compliance plates to register your vehicle.

NSW, we do not need compliance plates? I didnt know that. Had me worried. But I find it strange that theres no compliance plates... what reasons could they have for not having compliance plates.... strange! Thanks for the response.

I bought a car from NSW without a compliance plate and had to go through hell to get it registered in SA.... It was registered with no problems in NSW but I had to have a full road worthy inspection, which isnt fun when the car has had a engine swap..... lol
