Alternator could still be playing up? I have that too - and when I'm using more power (lights etc) you can hear it more.

hmm..so wats the problem with the alternator??coz the whinning sound came on when i start the engine and off when i turn off the engine..its at its loudest around the manifold area
how u solve urs??

Haven't solved it mate - I have to do other things before I worry about that.

It just sounds like the alternator is 'straining' if that makes sense?

It does it a little louder once the revs go up too, so that's what makes me think it's the alternator.

May be just an indication that it's going to die soon?

No other views.... just alternator :p

Can't think of anything else that would be making a 'whining' noise - apart from the gearbox or clutch region. But I doubt it's that.

What side of the I.M.? Might be the IACV! Just a thought, they can whine sometimes!

check inside ur dizzy cap. bearing could have f-d itself. if you see red dust (rust) time to get a) new bearing or b) new dizzy

IACV=Idle air control valve. It's what lets your car keep running while it idles and the throttlebody is closed.

hw do i check if its the alternator or the iacv and hw much wld cost to repair them??

Alt is like $75USD plus a core charge and a IACV is $175USD from Honda/Acura no core charge. Both can also be found on Ebay and Ebau.au. To test the Alt properly you need a tester that can put a load on the battery, also called a load tester, VAC40 from Snap-On if you have a lil money. The IACV should stop whining once you give the car a little gas but sometimes it just gets quieter. It has to do with the frequency it is being ran at. The AEM EMS tends to make them whine but the frequency can be changed on the EMS. I would pull the IACV and clean it with a mild detergent and blow/air dry. Might just be a little stuck, not enough to make it idle bad. Also make sure the numbers on it match as it might not be the correct one. Some fit other makes/models/years but run at a different frequency.

now you've definately confused the guy!

take it to a mechanic, thats your best bet.

i took it a mechanic b4 but he couldnt solve the problem all he do was change the timing belts but the problem persists

Ya time for a new mechanic! See a manual (http://www.highaltitudeimports.com/t16461-post-your-online-manuals-and-info-links-here.html) for how to check these systems.

could be your throttle body gasket...

just put a rug around different area of the intake manifold and see where the leak is coming from.

marcus

i have check its definitely not the throttle body gasket as i rev the sound stay the same and nt getting louder....hmm...

have you checked the tension on the alternator belt?
same shit happened to me when lower bolt on alternator snapped. belt was loose which caused it to whine on start up, turning off and ~ 2k rpm under load while driving.
