Hey all,
i got a problem with my EG Hatch
When i drive around my reverse lights stay on through 2nd 3rd and 4th but not in 5th or 1st. Also stay on when in neutral :?: anyone heard of this happening before , any DIY ways of fixing it? The gearbox is D series.
Thanks

yeh wtf hey,
i reverse parked in fornt of one of those mirror windows at my work and looked in the rear view mirror to see when they came on in what gears, i was tipped of from some old bird who thought it was necessary to pull me over and give me a lecture on how my lights were fkn up.
yeah wiring problem sounds evident,
thanks guys,
Peter

Get a wiring loom for your car!
The wires might be crossing over each other!
This happened to me with my indicator and temp gauage!
When i used my right blinker the temp guage went up and down with it.

Do you have aftermarket tail lights?
Or are they dead standard?
You been in a car crash and they touched your lights or put new ones in?
Anything like that?

Just have a look where you change the bulbs and stuff, see if anything is irregular.
Then if it is still like that just take it to an auto electrian and they'll fix it no worries!

You guys seem to be missing an obvious solution.. Only use 1st and 5th gears.. then you wont have the problem.. :)

I dont think its a wiring problem, I think that your revers light switch ( which is bolted on your manual gearbox) is at fault, either the switch it self is faulty or somthing in the gearbox isnt pushing on the switch only when its ment to.
check the switch is not loose, Get a multimeter and set it to continuity, if the revers switch has two wires, unplug them both and connect them to your multi meter. you should only get continuity when in revers. if you have a single wire switch put one wire from the meter to ground and the other on the switch. again you should only have continuity when in revers. if you have cont only in revers when doing this test, the switch is ok and you have a wirng problem ( very unlikly ). however if you get cont in R, 2nd 3rd 4th and N then u know its the switch or somthing in your gearbox. more likly your switch

to stop pissing cops off, disconnect the revers light swith. NO revers lights though, may stop you from getting pulled over. But could cause an accident when reversing. you decide. BUT DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.
