timing belt and balancer?

Hey Guys,
Was wondering if its true that you have to change the timing belt and balancer belt at the same time? This is for a honda legend 1998. Someone quoted me 600 bux! So I wanted to know if this is true or not.

Harmonic balancers are on the timing belt, i haven't heard that there is an extra belt.

My timing belt cost me $250 where i supplied the belt

Hanny's said 260 and another person quoted me 300. Just that I had a bad experience at Hanny's so abit hessitant to come back. But I suppose I can give them another try and see what happens.

Well you had a bad experience with Hanny. Sometime Mechanic can't always be perfect. But from my experience dealing with them and getting my service there it been nothing but A1 treatment. But thats just my experience with them.

They do quote some of the best prices for timing belt change that i've seen and if u really want quality then go and speak with Robert personally. He'll take care of you!

mine was 200 at a local mechanic. They installed my belt wrong which most likely decreased my engine life. My belt had been installed 2 teeth incorrectly. Take it to a mechanic experienced with hondas, thats my advice anyway.

Im pretty sure belts cost around $70/80, not %100.

600 sounds too expensive IMO. It isnt all that huge a job for someone who's experienced with changing honda timing belts.

timing belt and balance shaft belts ..

balance shafts are there to smooth ur idle on bigger engine cars ..

once u get above idle they dont really work neways .. but yeah on legends and preludes u usually gotta change them everytime u do a timing belt..

ah the balance shafts, maybe thats what he was talking about. Hmm how much would be to change these 2 belts... on average?
