Japanese Domestic Market.

The other abbreviations include USDM (United States Domestic Market), AUDM (Australian Domestic Market).

It allows people to identify the differences in vehicles (same make and model) that are produced in different markets.

Its common for owners of AUDM markets to convert many parts to JDM, as the JDM vehicles almost always have a bit more power, extra power options, bigger wheels, HID lights, or other goodies like that.

jdm yO !

The Japan domestic market (JDM) is a term used to describe Japan's market for purchasing things, chiefly automobiles. A similar term, United States domestic market (USDM) is used to differentiate US-only products. Some people interpret "M" as model. The term also pertains to the parts and products only available within the specific local Marketplace. Therefore, unless you are in Japan, parts have to be specifically imported to your target nation. There are a variety of importers that bring in these parts and have now expanded what once was a JDM only product into other marketplaces.

In recent years the popularity of JDM auto parts within the United States has grown significantly as a result of the import tuning wave. Part of the reasoning behind this could be associated with drifting, a traditionally Asian motorsport to only recently make its way to U.S. soil. As a result it is often believed that Japanese companies, because of their experience in developing sports such as drifting have great experience with developing the capabilities of these cars; therefore being able to research design and test parts more well suited to the demands of the sport.

What also sets JDM parts aside from others is the fact that Japanese vehicles often differ in features and equipment from vehicles sold elsewhere. In the case of Honda specifically, there have been different versions of the famed Type R B18C, B16B and K20A engines which were sent to other markets. Typically export versions of JDM engines have been "detuned" or modified for lesser performance.

JDM is overrated and has lost its meaning. Yanks use JDM for simple things like lip spoilers, blacked out headlights, etc etc. theres nothing JDM about that. Only things JDM are things that are fully imported from Japan as a whole entity. IMO (in my opinion)

Or if you are a Java programmer:

Java Data Mining (JDM) is a standard Java API for developing data mining applications and tools. JDM defines an object model and Java API for data mining objects and processes. JDM enables applications to integrate data mining technology for developing predictive analytics applications and tools. The JDM 1.0 standard was developed under the Java Community Process as JSR 73. As of 2006, the JDM 2.0 specification is being developed under JSR 247.

Various data mining functions and techniques like statistical classification and association, regression analysis, data clustering, and attribute importance are covered by the 1.0 release of this standard.

Independent of this standardization effort, there are already freely available open source software systems for Data Mining available that were implemented in Java, such as WEKA and YALE (Yet Another Learning Environment).

yes - treat JDM as purely a term to define the origin of parts and car models.
eg: JDM speedos go to 180km/h while AUDM go to 240km/h - something like that.

Also original JDM parts and modifications do carry the weight of gold amongst japanese cars... hence the demand for quality modification items.

JDM has been 'brutally' used in the recent years as a 'style' of tuning and styling amongs car modifiers. Why brutally? because the JDM style changes - its like fashion - moves on... yet people who believe in JDM style will often tell you the car has to be dumped, with lightweight 14/15 inch wheels, CF lips and be either wingless or sticker less (at least thats the trend). While in reality JDM style is a changing style - one day its wings and stickers, the next is big wheels...

so what ever you do - do NOT say your car is JDM :P or you will very quickly find yourself out of fashion.
