View Full Version : Energy Suspension Bushings???

Can someone explain to me how the engine mount inserts work?

As far as i know, an engine mount is a steel frame, with a rubber/urethane component inside to "suspend" and prevent vibrations from reverberating all through the car...

With the energy bushings, does the OEM rubber component get taken out and completely replaced? or do you just jam in the new bits along wih whats already in there... this seems a bit bodgey???

can someone shine some light for me?

yeah, the OEM rubber inserts in the engine mount are removed, and the new urethane inserts are put in its place.

apparently they are a real pain to get in correct?

no,
if u look at the engine mount insert it is designed to just fit inbetween of everything inside the engine mount. u just get both sides and put them in, kinda like three pieces of a puzzle, they fit together perfectly

just doing the front has made some vibrations come through to the cabin, i would hate to do both because the dash would fall apart!!! lol, if ur cars a dialy just do one of the mounts first when u need to change it, if its track it does actually make a big improvement on shifting.

Just on this topic, for the first time ever I've done something to my car that i've regretted :( Over the weekend i put in some Solid Cusco mounts. And man, it's ****ed. The whole car vibrates like a bitch, I can't even hear myself think. I knew it would have some side affects, but never imagined it would make it to the point of unbearable.

Will most liking be wasting a whole other day taking them back out. But on a happy note, i'm sure Energy inserts would have been a much nicer alternative.

So does the whole mount need to come out in roder to do this? How do you take out the rubber inside the mount already?

I would really love some photos of this. I dont want to sound whingy but its really not making any sense to me... and thats frustrating!!!!

sorry fellas

installing the mount inserts is like making a sandwich

ur mount inserts are the bread and the engine mount itself is the meat.lol
bread/meat/bread and then squish it!

dunno how else to explain it but the ES inserts are the exact same shape as the gaps in the mount so it just slides in and fits perfect

so how do they work then? they make the not so solid, holy(Has holes) engine mount into a more solid unit. less give and flex.

lot clearer SKREMN and CUL8R

thanks fellas, youve been a great help

   as above

the inserts fill the holes in you existing rubber mount up.. so there is no movement..

order of craziness:...

energy black insert
energy red insert
prothane
solid uranthane (like crazy ass barefootbonzai)
solid alloy (dont know anyone who has them, but they exist)

biggest load of crap:thumbsup:
parcially wrong
you can get energy suspention mounts that replace stock ones that have to be gutted out
but this is not for avalable for engine mounts only for other mounts
i got them on my rear trail arms had to cut out the stock rubber and replace/press in the new ones

we are talking about engine mouts here...
check the quotes below.@!

and yesh.. you completly remove and some oem bushing.... just like the shifter bushings...but with a press as they are a bitch:thumbsup:..

I got the black ones too.... i reckon then are worth the little vibrations eheheh....

speaking of energy suspension inserts, anyone happen to have a diy?
have a set sitting around for months, haven't gotten around to it :o

just unbolt the mount, squish in and remount one by one?
any specific torque settings?

thats it vinny. real bloody easy.
u just gotta torque the bolts as to factory specs.

i always thought the black and red were the same stiffness, just the colour was diff. damn i shoulda gotten the red master bushing kit. bugger.

i have the black and yeah i wouldnt even consider putting the rear mount insert in coz yeah it would be hardcore! i suppose the ladies might like the vibrations tho. hehe

if thats the case then does anyone know what factory torque settings? :p

also if doing one by one, is there any need to have some kind of support under the sump/gearbox?

The reds and blacks are the same durometer, however the black ones are claimed to be graphite impregnated for less squeaks. I lubed my blacks up to the shithouse anyway so I can't comment.

As for mount inserts, I have front and rear, and it shakes the cabin like a bitch and I love it. Though, i'm a bit twisted and like the so called 'negative' NVH that comes with many suspension mods.

Who cares what the ladies think... If they want comfort they can drive themselves around :p

Man how can you guys care about exact torque specs on trivial bolts like this? Do it till it's tight then you're sweet :D

True, I do not inserts. I got replacement mounts instead.

I would have thought you could get the bushes pressed out and replaced, but looks like I was wrong. Oh well, learn something new everyday.

The bushes will wear in a bit too. So if it starts off very harsh and lots of vibrations, over time it should loosen up a bit. This is what happened on my replacement mounts with urethane bushes. If you are worried about the harshness of the mounts and virbations it will cause look at the urethane stiffness rating. From what I have heard 60 is about close to stock. The higher the number the stuffer the mounts. Personally I am willing to sacrifice a bit of vibration, but I dont use mine as a daily driver though.

its funny... thats what i read about the graphite part..
but when u inspect them/install them..

they push in heaps easier and are softer with the black ones..

where did the durometer stuff come from.. is the source reliable.. cause i cant find it anywhere on there site
