Hey guys,

been looking at a CRX in my home town. its all pretty original and includes all original parts. the only aftermarket stuff on it is stuff the guy has added to sell the car and prob up the price (which has actually turned me off the car now cause im paying for shit i dont want...idiot). anyway, it is original, now has some 15s i believe and new tyres. its an 88 model ef9 with 196thou k's on it. um, just put a new headdeck in it which doesnt look too flash and a 10inch has been put in the back in the carpeted panel where the back seats would be (it now has a hole in it). not sure about amplifier. it has a stainless steel muffler and tip attached, but no headers or enlarged piping. stock intake. the paint is in decent condition and he says the engine is perfect.

anyway, my question is, he has $14,000 on it. i've budgeted 10g for a crx and wouldnt expect to find one for much more unless it was a pro show car. is he dreamin?, what price would you guys expect (be reaslistic please), just trying to get a benchmark so i can consider what to offer

why don't you consider getting a 96ish civic vti for that price? it would probably have half as many kms and is much better condition.

its all about character guys...

tho yes...the 96 civic will be an overall "better" car than the old crx, frankly, crx's are meannnnn, and that mean-ness attracts a certain price premium...

think of it as similar to why base model c-class merc's sell for close to $70k, with hubcaps...

however, yer...$14,000 sounds like a rip and a half

rip job! 14k for 88 model?
mint jdm models can go from 10-13k, shouldnt pay more than 10k for oz spec especially for 88 model

wow, prices are rediculous out there...

I just sold an '88 crx with a b18 in it for $900US... it was in a bit rough shape though... but even the very very nice examples only sell for $3k at most

If you want to play with cars the US is the place to be....

'88 with 196k,i wouldnt pay more than half that price if it was in was in pristine condition.

I have a different mentality when buying a car. When looking at a modified car, i generally dont consider 'mods' to be factors that can add value to a car. Things which give brownie points over other cars of the same model are:
- condition of motor
- condition of other mechanics, wheels, clutch state, suspension, tyres, brakes, handling and ride
- condition of the body, straight? accident damage etc.

I disregard any statements by the seller which boast items such as "deck, rimz, exhaust, 2 12's in da back, lowered" and i think you should do likewise. For every $100 they spend on things like that, to me it only adds $10 to the sale value.
You should also consider buying dead stock cars, as opposed to cars which have been modified inproperly with cheap headers, intakes, and crappy decks.

lol even 10k is a slight joke with nearly 200,000

with near 200,00 i wouldnt pay anything over 10,000.. If you do get it for under 10 go out n buy urself a b18c or something crazy and engine swap it..

Or buy a SiR crx for less then 14.. Im sure if you wait and look there would still be 1 around somewhere..

hi, sorry i couldnt stay on the forum when i posted it. now i have to reply to you all.

um firstly my bad on the ef9, it is an ed9 crx. i just screwed up there

im in north qld and it is one hell of a mission to find a crx, and the fact that i have found one here for sale is a big bonus, but not for 14g. i would pay a little extra for no hassle in buyin without flying to brisbane or something.

unforetuneatly i do not have any pics, it is red, little wing, 15s. its all straight and in good nick, the dash is a bit worn from sun and that though. seats and interior are also pretty good. all electrics work. only thing wrong is one of the dash lights is always on (little picture of engine with a fan at the front).

and im not looking at a 96 civic cause i LOVE crx's and im specifically out there chasing one with my budget of 10g.

i am certainly not considering the mods to have any increase in the price as they are all pretty shit and should decrease the value. he is obviously not a car modifying kinda guy, no style. stupid exhaust, stupid rims, stupid stereo.

im goin to get the engine checked out and if it is in absolute a1 condition, i might consider 10...might, other wise i'll just be back on the market

if anyone else has any more questions or something else to say then please do.

fu***k that man... the max i would pay for an crx in that shape is 7k... ITS NOT EVEN A B16A SIR OR ANYTHING... biggest rip ive heard of so far.
dont get ripped off, too many kms.. that engine is nearly dead! Think about replacement costs...
if i were you, wait around.. if you find one in sydney just get it shipped or towed to qld, might cost a few hunred but atleast you get a good car and are happy.... dont do something you will regret..

you can get a DEL SOL TARGA TOP crx for a little more money lol 14k is a rip off.

if its an aus spec one, no way! escpecially with the check engine light always on, that means there is a problem.

max i would pay is like 7000 for an emaculate one.

haha, i thought that too. maybe i should check. probably put a bit of weight on the car, no good for performance.

Every owner values their car differently and each buyer wants to get the best possible price on his new future car - its finding that middle ground thats the hardest part.

While 14K might be a bit too much for that particular car and for your pocket - there might be someone who will come along and pay close to that as it will be 'exactly' what he wants.

there are some CRXs here in WA...

Mate.

mrhondas.com

Plent of CRX's, and he's based in QLD.

When looking for a car, quality is more important. KM's don't mean SH*T. Really.

A vehicle, Serviced to it's log book, Oil checked regularily, Garaged, well maintained, and driven responsibly, will go alot longer than 300,000.

My uncle told me about his mate who's Ute has been doing a Lithgow to Homebush trip, to and from, every business day for 10 years.

Never had an engine problem.

It's simple, look after your car, it'll look after you.

14, 000 Is a stupid amount to think you can get for a car so old, and not EXCELLENT condition.

I'd expect it to be as good as in the CRX Brochures.
