This has puzzled me for ages now. Thought i'l ask now coz i was thinkin of buyin new cams and its going to be a requirement i think.

WHy is it when you buy new internal parts like cams, piston, vavle guards etc etc you have to run it in. Eg take it easy for the first 1000kms?

Same goes for buyin a new car why do u have to take it easy for first 5000kms?

I've always figured its brand new hence you and just fang it LOL.

If you are getting new rings, then run the mototune way. Just 3 runs up to redline, with 1/2, 3/4 and full throttle in 2nd or 3rd gear and letting the engine slow itself down. After that, run in gently for the next 1000km.

To make sure the piston rings seal well. The article is about sealing in piston rings, not running in the whole engine.
