I've had B&M and currently on BC dual bend (EM1).

IMO - B&M is not my kind of shifter. It's too short and straight. I'm over 6 foot and I have to reach to get it into first - so therefore makes cruising VERY uncomfortable.

As I said, I'm currently on a BC dual bend. VERY nice feel. Shift's like stock shifter (except shorter of course). It sits as high as the stock one and because of the dual bends, points towards the driver - it's fantastic and I wouldn't recommend any other brand!

Just my opinion though - so take it as you please. :)

I'm also chasing differences in kits.

I don't have one yet, and would like to get one with tax return. What sort of prices are we looking at? And are they all DIY? Don't like mechanics playing with my car...They seem to stuff it.

Agreed. My problem with the B&M was also the lack of the bend.

Here's my install and review :)

What sort of prices are we looking at for the kits though? And how long did it take to install? Looked pretty straight forward so should only take about 20 mins right?

takes a bit longer than 20 mins......Only because getting underthe car is a hassle. If you have a hoist.....then prob 20 mins

Skunk2 by far the cheapest and best bang for buck shifter!.. Personally I think you should get a dual bend. Its sits the shifter closer to the driver its the only dual bend out the market I believe.

Im pretty happy with mine .. change your bushings when changing your shifter .. gives it a more solid feel

most shifters for SOHC are only single bend ...

SIR GSR
23-07-2006, 08:10 PM
I'm not interested in the closeness of it to me, I can adjust myself. I sit quite close anyway. I like the B & M one, but if anyone has prices on the selection that'd be great.

single bend are no good, nothing worse than having to lean your left sholder forward to change gear, i modded the original, added 25mm to the bottom and for the 30 mins it took to do i dont think there is much that will match it. The good thing about modding your own is you can make it to your likings.
My opinion.

I've got a B&M and yes you have to lean the left shoulder a bit during shifting...

I don't know what brand it was (probably a no name) but i came across one for $39 +p/h on ebay, this was a while ago though. It was somewhere in vic i think, but i guess for that price it would probably snap on you during the first shift :(

I run one of them cheap ebay specials. It's going strong; I can't really see it snapping. Steel is stronger than human arms :)

I have no problems with any special reaching or what-not, but then again, i'm probably more tolerant to non-comfort features than anyone else on this forum.

Suckers paying $120+ for a shifter :D

If I had to do it again i'd definately just modify the stock one to my liking. But then again, I couldn't weld when I installed mine.
