Is there any problem putting 80w/110w globes in a housing rated for 50w/65w ?

I've done it on my EG and it lasted awhile till the black plug that fits into the back ofthe bulb melted. Wasn't too hard to replace but imagine the hassle you'd have if one of the wires melted in a hard to get at place!
EG lights suck.......don't know about EK/EJ though
EK have the same issue too... i ve seen it

Yeah with 80-110 you can actually see where you’re going. Oh well guess ill have to search for another solution to the poor lighting problem.

HIDs :)
I’d rather not blind other road users with a retrofit HID kit with crappy cut off.
If it was just a wire problem I could use a couple of relays. But melting the housing doesn’t sound fun.

I think you're more likely to melt the wires.......even if you got a relay you'd still have to fix up the plastic plug that fits on the back of the bulb. Maybe my EG ones were old but they were the first to go :)
Hell you might as well just run over a few things in the night and blame it on bad lights :p

try "NARVA" PLUS 50 (from repco, there on sale) They claim to be brighter that higher rated bulbs but without the heat, they use some mystical gas in their bulbs. 25% off at repco this week

Tried them......wasn't very impressed. I think the reflector/housing is the main problem

It's not mystical gas, it's Xenon. They state that on their website.
I'm using them as my high beams, work good for high beams...

The extra output is achieved with the use of a Xenon filler gas added to the halogen mixture that recycles and ignites more of the available gas.
Problem is, xenon is a noble gas, meaning its inert (doesnt like to bond with stuff or change its structure). So i dont see how it could help gasses ignite better. THough xenon does produce a glow, only when excited by electrical dischrge (arching) which our normal bulbs dont do.
So, its still a mystical gass to me.
