Hi guys just wondering,
Had a problem with the car, the oil cooler line burst and the car's been in the mechanics. Now the vtec seems to be playing up. It comes on and sometimes it doesn't.

Now checked connection, to vtec, oil is full, temp was normal.

Now with the guages i got better readings of pressure.
On idle the pressure is 1.5Bar (22PSI) When it hits 4k rpm its about 3-3.5Bar (45-50psi)

Now who can tell me on a b16a what pressure is vtec supose to work at?

Anyone able to tell me what else may be causing the prob?

I TOLD YOU YOUR LINES WHERE SHIT!!!!!

go some nice braded ones with nice screw lock connectors

what where your pressure readings before you busted the line?

thats the same problem i had with my vtec and increased the pressure and it should be fine
i neva had a problem then it started to drop out so i increased the pressure and it was all good
after i ddi the cooler it was still ok lose some psi but vtec still worked then later with no noticible drop in pressure it was too low for vtec and was intermitant so it kinda suddenly happend to me

Alright can someone tell me when vtec is actually supose to operate? What PSI does it kick in as this seems to be my problem

VTEC need 25 to 30 psi to kick in, it wont be reliable unless you have a good 50 to 70 psi.

at idle you will want to have about 15- 30 psi
3000 rpm you would want around 55- 70 psi

I've seen figures of between 57-60psi at 5000rpm for minimum reliable changeover

mine sits at 80PSI now and its reliable

ok i see my problem now, i'm only getting around 2 to 2.5 bar, about 29PSI to 36PSI at 3,000rpm and only 1.5bar at idle.

If the engine's damaged will that affect the PSI?

I reckon if there was enough pressure to burst the oil cooler, there could have been some damage from the high pressure elsewhere and is now not maintaining oil pressure.

nah arrong the lines burst cos of a different reason, wasn't due to pressure.

go and get it tested at a mechanic.

mate should of spent the extra dollar for braided lines.

good time to clean the vtec solinoid gauze too :) take the solinoid off the head and clean the little oil filter of any sluge or build up as this could hinder the engagement too.
