Hi Guys,

Today was driving my car and I came to a red light. Just as I came to a stop the light's went green again, so I rushed off driving without remembering to put it back in first gear (was in 3rd gear at this point I think) before I moved again. As I slowly began to move the car popped out of gear and made a pretty loud noise (not sure if it was the gear box or the shift gate though)!! After this I quickly put it back into first and drove off normally without noticing anything different. But to my question... is this normal in car? As I've driven many manual cars in my life, and none have ever popped out of gear if I tried to launch in a too higher gear... could this cause any damage?

Also, the car is brand new and has only travelled around 300KM...

Any comments and thoughts would be great!

Are you sure you put it in gear properly?

If you dont put the gear in all the way then it could pop out. It happened in my civic once or twice.

Euro 2006 Manual

And I'm pretty sure it was in gear properly.

Once, I shifting from 3rd to 4th at 4000rpm. For some reason, it popped out of 4th and jumped into 2nd with a loud grinding noise. I had shifted into 4th and released the clutch, so my hand was no where near the knob (at the wheel) and my foot was on the foot rest. But did that on its own. Never happened again though.

not having a go at anyone but id be leaning towards driver error in this case. as for damage? by the sounds of it u wouldnt have caused any damage, my advice if ur not sure, either take it to a service department to be roadtested with there foreman/roadtester as its under warranty, or try and replicate this again, try doing wot u think u did, then try putting it onli half way into gear. most new cars have a tendancy to be abit tough on the gearchanges until the syncros have a chance to bed in.
see how u go, if ur worried, report it at the 1st service.

Dogz - your car will be fine. If it is driving normally, just forget about it. Also think about getting the car in neutral when approaching a stop with your foot off the clutch (but it is a controversial topic so perhaps lets not get started about that)...
