I recently removed the factory intake manifold/tb from my ef8 crx sir. When i put it back on and started the car, the idle went up rapidly and won't come down below about 2800rpm. The throttle cable is adjusted correctly and i have an apexi pod fitted. The check engine light also stays on. How can i adjust the idle?

There is spose to be slack with the throttle cable.
Check to make sure that the thottle body is closed fully when there is no throttle.
Also what codes are u getting from the ecu?

Does the revs lower after time/getting warmer.

workshop manual suggests checking these things in order:
Fast idle valve
EACV
and idle ajust screw

all the vacuum lines connected too? no splits?
maybe clean the eacv etc..

you have probably hooked up you dashpot plunger to a vacuum source,

it is ment to vent to the intake pipe.

read the LED flashes out of the ECU, that will help us tell you what you forgot to connect back up. my guess is the IAT on the back of the manifold.

just curious.. but wouldnt the intake pipe often be under vacuum?

not at idle

The dashpot plunger is connected correctly and I am getting 7 flashes from the ecu, which I think is the throttle position sensor. I have managed to get the idle down to 1500 rpm just by swivelling the tps (it has slotted mounting holes) but can't move it any farther and I still have the check engine light on.

you really should not touch the TPS, but its to late now that you have played with it, you have to set it back to 0.45v at closed throttle.

reset the ecu ( disconenct your battery for 15 seconds )

test the TPS votages to the ECU with the ignition on but engine off, you should be getting 0.45v at closed throttle and about 4.5v at full throttle on the ECU C connector C7 its a red/blu wire.

make sure you dont have any vacuume leaks.

I also checked the intake air temp sensor (removed and cleaned and then replaced). the car is now sitting at about 1200rpm idle (I haven't touched the tps again). The ecu code I am now getting is 17, I must have been an idiot and misread it. What is this code?

ECU-MAN

code 17 is VSS

vehcle speed sensor

ECU-MAN

make sure its plugged in

Dylanamus

that is 17 right? Where is the vehicle speed sensor located?
would i have unplugged that in removing the intake manifold?

Dylanamus

not sure.

back if the engine near TB

well the car displays the codes in chronological order(if more than 1)so if you were going to see those 2 codes you would see 7 then 10.

Whats the delay between the 1 flash & the 7 flashes, how many seconds?

Dylanamus
24-07-2006, 11:05 PM
about 2 seconds or so. they are definitely separate

I'll have another crack at it tomorrow. Thanks for your help man.

CRXer

then its 2 seperate codes 1 & 7
1- o2 sensor
7- TPS as ECU-MAN said

yes would be two as crxer said dylan..

I just remember that i had a high idle problem after cleaning the ICV.. and to fix it i just reset the ecu and let the car warm up without touching the throttle at all..

but yeah.. as ecuman said.. go for the ecu reset and dont touch it and let it warm up..

I was using Dylanamus' computer earlier. I got the idle down to a normal level but I am having trouble finding an easy place to get a voltage reading with a regular multimeter probe, so I have not as yet obtained a voltage from the tps.

Wrap some small copper tails around your probes & test at ecu end.
Or to test at TPS end, just depin the plug and wrap small wire tails around pins & reinsert, just make sure u then dont short the wires together when testing.

you can gently jam the multi meter probe into the back of the connecotr red/blu wire

its called back probing. works well

Mental block gets the better of me after a day's work. used to working on ac not dc also.
