Hi all,

I've heard that, the Auto transmission, in the 98 accords can be allite trouble some. As far as i no, they did not make a manual for the V6, plz correct me if I'm wrong.

I was wondering, if anyone has looked into doing a transmission swap, with somthing alittle more steardy, or if it is possible to get some work done to it to make it alittle more robust.

If any of these options a availible, a ball park figure for cost, and a rough idea of parts needed would be great...

P.S Nice to have our own quite room, for Accords (non Euro).

There is no manual for the 6th gen V6. In the US they are swapping the 7th gen manual transmission from the V6 accord or CL-S, but it would be hella expensive. The acual transmission would cost you around $2000 US for a second hand one. Then there's the whole ECU thing - you'll need one of them as well.

Their is also the Dr. Evil transmission, they take your old one and rebuild it and make it stronger, again it's hella expensive. Group buy is $3500US, this is just the cost to rebuild it. You then need shipping and labour. It's shown to be pretty damn reliable.

All up - you might as well start saving for a new one/rebuild or buy a new car!

As Raz said, most options are very expensive. Not worth the trouble IMO. Another option is to purchase a transmission cooler, seems to help prolong the life of the auto trans (from what I've read on V6P.net). You should check out that site, lots and lots of info on this topic.

just always use genuine honda ATF fluid. I put dextron in once, was OK-ish, then started slippingh, put the Honda stuff in, like brand new. My mate who is a honda mechanic said that the honda ATF is used in drag cars with hi stall gearboxes (something like that)

iv got a hard shift problem while its cold, wen it warms up its fine.... ive got honda atf fluid in it so its not that.
id take it to an auto place, get them to roadtest it and get a quote for them to fix it, most "adjustment" jobs can be done with the box still in the car and i think its the most cheapest option and itl go bak to like new, well thats my next step.

Yeah, especially on cold nights, the transmission does get a bit hard. I normally turn on the engine (auto start hi hi), leave the car running for around 10 minutes before I do anything.
