Hey Guys,

Was Wondering, if we have any track events near Melb, sort of social laps around a track or somthing like that?

Was also wondering if there would be any intrest in organising an event at winton Motor raceway?

Also was wonder, what is legal required for you to take you car on the track- eg roll cage, tyres, breaks. kinda a noob at that kinda stuff. but would love to take a few easy laps around a track just for the XP.

Yeah man, keep a eye out there are always track events happening. Join a Honda car club and they usually let you know when things are happening. If you orgaised a track day I would be there

You will need your cams licence to go on most tracks, this lasts a year and is about $90. As for your car you need a fire extingusher mounted somewhere in reach, the car needs to be in good condition, and you need to wear a helmet + woolen clothing. Bonnet needs to be strapped down too to make sure it doesn't fly open. I think thats about it

But the rest is up to you as to what tyres, brakes, suspension and all that you run. I have friends who have run fully stock cars before. But you might want to look at getting some good higher temp brake pads.

Me and a few mates from work are going to Calder park in a few months time.
It will be on a Wednesday as this is a test day for race car drivers. Cost is $185,
plus you need a helmet, race suit which is another $35 can hire there. You can
stay on the track as long as you want. No time sessions. I went April this year
clocked up about 300ks best fun ever.:p

this is the program of events for a fun day held at winton on july 16th.

pretty much tells you everything u need to know
[WINTON] ~ Fun Day - 16th July
Winton Raceway in North East Victoria will be having one of their famous Fun Days on Sunday July 16 2006,

Cost
Is $25 per driver and $25 per passenger

Programme:
Normally be there by 8.00 for scrutineering, but this can take some time.
Drivers Briefing at around 9.00 - 9.30
Driver only on track for 30 minutes sighting laps, then
Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then
Driver only on track for 30 minutes, then
Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then
Driver only on track for 30 minutes, and so on all day until about 4.30

Requirements:
Bring your car, an Australian Standard Approved helmet (http://s3.phpbbforfree.com/forums/modefy-about4.html#), the helmet can be either open or closed face, fire proof clothes that cover you from neck to ankle to wrist (cotton or wool clothes are good). Runners (http://s3.phpbbforfree.com/forums/modefy-about4.html#) are not the preferred footwear, Blundstones boots (or similar) or any leather type shoe is preferable

Make sure your car has no oil/coolant leaks (http://s3.phpbbforfree.com/forums/modefy-about4.html#), fitted seat belts, battery is secure, wheels nuts are tights, no loose items in the car (http://s3.phpbbforfree.com/forums/modefy-about4.html#) or boot.

The Car does not have to be registered, but has to road/race worthy. There are normally no checks done of lights except for brake lights (http://s3.phpbbforfree.com/forums/modefy-about4.html#) except if it is an overcast, rainy day, then there may be checks for lights as well as wipers.

And very importantly, bring a smart, alert (http://s3.phpbbforfree.com/forums/modefy-about4.html#) attitude, coz there is some very fast cars out there, whilst it is not a race meeting, some people bring race cars and the onus is on them to behave appropriately around first timers.

h22a has the info.

Dray_Templar, for this level of track events that use the lowest level of CAMs licencing, you don't need a fire extinguisher. You don't need to have a roll cage either unless you are using a 4 point harness. Your helmet has to be ADR approved, so look for that sticker on the back of the helmet. Never peel the sticker off. The best priced helmets that I've found are motorcycle helmets ($70ish). I went for 1/2 face without a visor because it would hinder my breathing in the car (no wind flowing against the front of the helmet) and the visor would fog up pretty fast.

Wear a long sleeved shirt and pants. Best are jeans (they are thick and tough), and a thickish cotton shirt (button shirts are easier to rip off quickly). Wear socks and proper shoes. I like my timberland shoes, but everyone has their own preferred shoes for driving.

Bring a spare bottle of engine oil, water (for yourself to drink), a small towel to dry your sweat, especially in summer, and 2 bricks (to stop your car from rolling when you park after a session). Never use your handbrake after a session. Let your car idle for 5 minutes if possible. To speed up cooling, turn on your car's heater as it removes heat from the coolant.

Drop by supercheap or bigW, pick up a puncture repair kit. Most tracks are pretty far away from the city, so you won't want to ride too long on the space saver spare that you have (and it has a speed of 70km/h) as you will be left behind while everyone elses drives at the 100-110 speed limit.

Oh, and did I mention that it was pretty difficult to loosen the wheel nuts with that little socket bar that Honda provides? I'd get proper socket ($4.50) and a breaker bar ($40) for hassle-free wheel removal if required.
