Hi guys.. i had to buy a new cluster for my civic since the petrol gauge needle fell off, but the speedo has 140k on it and ive only done 120k. Since i'm gonna be selling it i wanna have 120k on it and was wondering if anyone knew any places in Sydney that would roll it back to 120k, apprently theres a place in Marrickville that does it but i couldnt fint the name.
Thanks for any help.

thats a bit of a grey area. but from what he says, that sounds like a perfectly good reason to me. but, knowing any joe blow, given the opportunity, im sure they would wind it back a little further than they need to. the difference of 40 000kms would be only a few extra minutes of winding back i guess, and that could potentialy increase the car's value by a few thousand.
In saying that, i dont make any implications that mdswing would do such a thing.

its pretty easy dude, just get an electric drill and attach it to the cable that goes to your gearbox, and wind it forward at high speed until you get to your desired reading ie 120 000.

if you get a mechanic to install the new cluster, they would be able to include in your invoice/report that whilst the new cluster shows 140 000, your car has only done 120 000, saving you the trouble of having a wound back cluster.

Why dont you just swap the old speedo into your new cluster, it a hand full of screws and 10mins work

Hate to say this.... but it is not a speedo. It's the odometer.

I wouldn't wind it back...

I'd just leave it, tell the new owner the story, and give them the old gauge cluster aswell, so they can see...

winding one back is illeagal. your best bets to source another one. Also if you wind it back people can tell because the numbers wont line up perfect again. so you technically want to wind it foward like will said

the mechanism inside the odometer is hard as a rock...n dont try prying it coz the numbers scratch easily. :zip:

its not illegle to calibrate a new cluster to match your old one.

you cant just turn the dial ( not that I would know )
they are all locked in with a lock pin to stop them from moving. ( is what I gather by looking at one )

you need to remove this pin to adjust the dials to the desired reading ( is what I read some were ) then put the pin back in. gotta be carefull not to snap the plastic bit holding the pin in.

well dont do it..
just detatch the odo from your old cluster
detach the odo from your new cluster
and swop them
done easy
now u have the new 1 reading 120K

after 999 999 a new number appears, and goes to 1,000,000km!!!

It should just clock over.

Just go around asking servo station mechanics

When your speedo clicks over from 999,999 then you get an instant couple of grand increase on the price of your car.

Obviously this thread was created for a different reason... not to mention its a bit touchy on the legality issues...

You dont want the world knowing how to wind back a odo now, this place would end up like SAU!!!
