Hey,

Best i can do is Saturday it goes in for lowering wheels and a camber

Do you realise that in most states you can probably be defected for wheels that big? Generally you're only allowed a +2 fitment at most. Just so you're aware...

Yep the stock size is 17" so the legal max is 19". If you go over 19" you need an engineers certificate.

yeah i know its illegal.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand why people do (or try to do) things to their cars that they know is illegal -- you're just asking for trouble...

Hey,

In Vic the rules( Vicroads) state that the max you can go is 15mm overall diameter on the bigesst rim/tyre combo. so if you put 225X30X20 you should be sweet if you go 35 there will be an issue.

There is a thread on the site that can calculate your rolling diameter and overall rim size which helped me. See how you go. I had 19" on by E36 and 46 and had no issues with the law.

i'd say 85% of the cars here are illegal, with pods or catbacks, too low.
etc.

Use this to work out the overall circumference.

I guess with bigger rims means that's it's wider too, so maybe with 20's or 22's you might have to roll your guards to clear. Other than that, camber will be a big issue especially if you decide to lower it. I've seen Euro's dumped on their ass with 19's + and I can see lots of negative camber. With the naked eye, I was at least -2 degree, no joke. Some people just can't be bothered doing things right then complain about the inside tyres wearing out faster or tramlining etc.

Hey,

What that statement means is your overall wheel/tyre diameter must be within 15 mm (compared to stock) on the biggest LEGAL rims -- which is still 19 inches. You can go a +2 fitment over the largest diameter specified by the manufacturer (which would be 19 for an 05 onward Euro lux or Sports or 18 for any other model).

There are separate regulations on the diameter and width of rim.

You might also like to see what your insurance company would have to say...

well at the moment i have 19's and camber is -4 degrees on each side.
i know all about the tyre wear. im not to worry about that.

You mean like this? Full negative camber when i use 19" with 9.5 width & offset +32. I lowered it around >5cm. I'm still using the wheel until now but not that low.

Always meant to ask you... do you have any rubbing issues with that combination of rim width/offset and wheelgap? I wanna know because if you don't it means i can safely go 10mm lower :p

Also suprised that you have to lower the car more than 3" to achieve a 1.5 finger gap on 20" rims. I'm at a 2 finger gap allround atm lowered about 2" all round on 17's

on mine i cant fit no fingers in the rears but about 1 finger space in the fronts.
maybe on his 20's his got thinner tyres.

That's not too bad, but I've seen worse. I mean a bit of negative camber is ok (around -1 to -2 degrees) but any more it's more of a safety issue. More camber means less contact on the road, so you're car will be tramlining especially in the wet. I mean each to their own, if I was to dump it with big rims, I would definately invest in a camber kit. Plus it makes the car look nicer and less of a space ship with wheels about to fold in and lift off, if u get what I mean :p.

This is the current height after using coilover & for daily driving (save the tyres :) ). I lower the car only during the autoshow.

I personally don't like anything over 18", especially because it's a big gap between your disc brake and the wheel, unless you upgrade your disc brake to something bigger. But I like the blue euro's ones, I guess it's because it's quite enclosed and you don't see the gap.

Hey guys,

what do you guys think about 19x8 +47? How would that fit on a euro? Would it sit flush? Would it scrub?

stephen8512
02-08-2006, 08:10 PM
19x8 with a +47 offset should be okay
depends on how much u lower the car, but it shouldnt. u should still be able to full lock the wheel both ways and not have it scrub anywhere
it should sit flush too.

Thanks for your help stephen8512. I'm not too sure when it comes to rims, offsets and sizes he he!!

I wasn't intending to lower the car, hoping the rims would just fill the gaurd space, lowering the car makes the drive so uncomfortable. lol. But i'll see how it goes after i get the rims first. :D

I went looking at rims the other day - i could not find one wheel in 19" that had the right size and offset.... Where are all you guys looking??

Also priced a set of TEIN SS coilovers from the official Aussie distos Fulcrum Suspension in bribane - $2122 + $440 fitting sounded a bit steep... Is this right?

Well, i was looking to order a set of volk gt-cs in gold, face1 which has a +47 offset from japan. Just making sure that it fits.

yep that's how much they go for. though if you ask me 440 is steep for installation.

TEIN SS can give a close to stock ride comfort on the softer settings and is fine for everyday driving

My friend bought tein ss directly from Japan for around $1300 delivered. I think he will sell his tein ss along with his 19" wheels as well soon. I only pay $100 to fit my coilover.

19" 47+ should be fine
ive got 19" 45+ with no troubles at all

You might rethink about lowering once you get the wheels on though, i had mine with 19s for a while not lowered, kinda looked stupid
Sit way to high

as pumped said, rethink about lowering your car. just cuz its a bigger wheel doesnt mean it'll fill ou the guards. remember, bigger the rim, the thinner the tyre so its all relative
to explain, heres 2 pictures of my car with bodykit. 1 with 17's and one with my current 20's. both not lowered. the gap as u can see is still the same

Those wheels dont look to bad - shoot me a PM if your mate is keen on selling :)

Yer i was thinking $440 was a bit steep that includes a wheel alignment but they are like what $50 at the most - so with labor at $60 an hour you can not tell me it takes 6.5hrs to install a set of tein coilovers... Was thinking $2500 all up was a bit rich!!!

I think my suspension install was a good price too - only cost $160 at a shop in Perth. The suspension is not adjustable coilovers but the install is exactly the same.

I had it aligned at a different place - $45 or $50 for a 4 wheel alignment is probably the minimum not the maximum

One other place in Perth quoted me $400 for sussy install - so shop around.

yea i think $160 is a much more reasonable price for a suspension install - like yfin said shop around.

are you getting 19" or 20 wheels? Just remember the intertia of the wheels will be much higher than stock. SO you will find yourself harder to take off if the car is 6MT, so 7.8s 0-100 will be about 9 secs with the wheels
