Isn't that the thing like Spoon made that goes on the bottom of the engine to strengthen the mounting points that hold the bearing caps in place? for Spoon, it let them build a 12000rpm B16B! would not think they are interchangeable as I think the bearings mount slightly differently between those engines.

Yes, you are correct. As for interchangable I don't know, never tried.

Here is one with the main caps:

Here is a link to ERL's page with the one they make:

if the bottom end is interchangeable then the girdles would be to. Otherwise i doubt it would.

different mounting points, bearing sizes etc etc

Bearing size won't really matter, that's all inside the caps and if you machine the crank or line hone the mains then the bearing changes, but not the cap as far as the girdle is concerned. Main cap size is what matters, the mounting points and the pan depth. I haven't really tried to interchange girdles from one car to another, we just buy the one on the part list unless we CnC it.

Shouldnt they be the same with same cranks-shafts?

Ie - B16 crankcase can accept B18c crankshaft, and B18c can accept B20 crankshaft so they must be interchangeable... I think the bearings have different inner diameters?

This is what I always assumed with similar cranks in interchangeable blocks.

i would say the girdle is only neccessary if your going to go all out with your motor
i have also got a sleeved block the b20's arnt the strongest

i blew up my last motor b18/b16 combo
I didnt wanna take any risks with the next one so i spent 3g's just on the block alone
