hey guys,

last night i was installing my parkers the red wire snapped (parkers have two wire, black and red) but when i try to re-wire it, i think i might of short circuit the whole thing and touched the black with the red.

anyways now my parkers dont work and my normal tail light dont work....break light still works.

think might of blown a fuse.

any help? if its not a huge job im willing to try and fix it myself instead of taking it to an auto electrician.

cheers

Did you check the fuse box to see if the fuse is blown? A blown fuse can be seen towards the bottom of the link (http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/wfc2.htm).

well im not sure exactly where to check.
i took at look at the fuse box located upper left side of the car and took out the "headlight" fuse. it seem its all connected and working.

my headlight works, so does high heam and break light, just not parkers and normal taillight

check the underdash fuses.
that should be it!

There are two fuses boxes (one under bonnet and the other under a removable panel under/next to the steering wheel). I assume you checked under the bonnet?

Edit: destrukshn beat me to it :p

yea i checked the bonnet one. didnt know about the dash one. (the one on the right side of the steering wheel?)

ill go check the other one now. what should i b looking for inside that panel?
its just a small pannel cant really reach inside?

underdash one, seems like all your parker lights are gone.
i'm pretty sure it'd be a 10amp fuse.

i just went to have look,
its too dark for me to figure out the fuse ill try tmrw.
however can you please tell me which fuse is the one thats for parker/tail light?
oh the back of the pannel i took out it has :

7.5A taillight/license light
7.5A backup lights
10A LH/L low beam
10A RH/L low beam
20A P/W DR
20A P/W AS
20A P/W RR-R
20A P/W RR-L

which one is parkers?? and i assum this is for taillight ? (7.5A taillight/license light)

yeah i'd assume tail light, does you licence light work?
just pull em out, and check it

Take all the fuses out 1 by one and see which ones burnt - it's definetely a 10amp as I blew mine lastnight :p

and do i just replace another fuse with the same amp and my taillight should work?

the problem is, my front parkers wire is still ripped out..can i re-attached it by myself? i duno how to get the sockets open to attach the wire in and tighten it again. (make sense?)

destrukshn

so you pulled the wire out of the plug?

EK4R

more like it snapped off being such old wires.
bits of the other end is still in there. only the black wire is connected

fixed with a new fuse, 7.5amp
now i just need to re-attach the red wire into the socket.
anyone know how i do that and how i get the old wire out of the socket it was attached to ?

I am confused. What sort of 'socket' are you referring to? Do you mean a plug? Any pictures of what you mean? Something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-ACCORD-FACTORY-STEREO-PLUG-HARNESS-88-89_W0QQitemZ300013724424QQihZ020QQcategoryZ40017QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)?

philips screw driver will do the job should be a screw to tighten the wires

Just solder it back together or use a tunnel crimp lug, theres a crimp pin inside the socket u will have to replace, way too hard.

tunnel crimp lug : where i get that?

you mentioned solder it back, so just use heat and melt the 2 wires back or wat?

From what you just wrote,I think either is going to be too difficult for u.

Just take it to the auto elec & say join these wires for me,it will take him all of 2 min to do & cost u minimal. At least u know it wont cause further grief then.

If u really want to diy, then go to jaycar, dickies or similar & ask for a tunnel connector(tunnel crimp lug, line joiner, whatever, they will know what u want) for the size of wire your joining & ask them how to use it.

Alternatively, there has to be someone u know who can do this for u?

EK4R

yea dont mind taking to auto electrician. but not like i need it atm, its just parker lights. umm prefer diy so i know how to fix wires in the future. ill ask around. jaycar sounds a good option.

btw how much would it cost roughly for a auto electrician for a job like this?

CRXer

Just google soldering, must be 100000000000000 articles on it.

Jaycar call tunnel connectors,"butt" connectors, find them here (https://secure4.vivid-design.com.au/jaycar2005/productView.asp?ID=PT4527&CATID=35&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=601)
Even go to auto stores, they will have what u need as well

If auto elec charges u more than $10,he is a DH,dont go back there again.
