I've got a problem

Its happened the 3rd time, i cant start the car.

I tried jump starting it, it wouldnt start
So then i roll started it and it worked. wtf?

I checked all fuses, all fine

the clock hasnt reset on itself, so maybe its not the battery?
BUT it makes the no battery sound "tick tick tick tick tick etc"

could it be the starter motor? alternator? spark lugs? :confused:

WTF?!? Thanx

its the starter motor...either hit it with a rubber or wood pole/screwdriver handle etc while trying to start it ~ or "roll start" it.

It needs the internal carbon bushes either rebuilt or simply replaced.

Yeah another vote for starter motor from the sounds of things.

Whats the cause of this problem?

Because i just took my car in for a service at a HONDA dealer, and i would assume that they would of checked/tested everything.

i think if thats the case , its the internal coil or igniter unit inside the distributor(or main relay). It works, then after awhile it can overheat (old age) . Guys at honda checked it and wouldnt be able to see the pbolem at all.

replacing the starter motor soleniod will fix yor problem,cause is age/wear. The soleniod contacts inside the starter motor loose there ability to supply 12v to the starter motor to engage the bendix.

starter motor for sure.

Click & No Crank = Brushes are gone but solenoid is fine. Do the tapping test as suggested above.. it works eventually when the brushes manage to make contact from the vibrations caused.

No Noise = Solenoid dead. the starter only cranks when the starter gear is pushed out to your flywheel by the solenoid.

If your in sydney goto Turbo Auto Spares in Cabramatta.. they have great prices on starter exchange. otherwise you can goto a specialist and buy the brushes for ~$10 and install it yourself.... i've got a pic of what a starter looks like inside if you need it... it ain't hard to change. the trickiest part is putting the brush casing back on as the brushes are sprung....

solenoid doesn't wear... it just dies.all it does is pushes the strater gear out when voltage is applied.

the only thing that wears are the brushes.

RED = Brushes
Green = Solenoid

the brushes go around the end of the black bottom piece in the picture. this is what comprises of the actual starter motor and exactly why the brushes wear... coz the motor on the bottom spins and frictions on the brushes. however this does not spin until the solenoid has fully engaged the starter gear

so where abouts is the starter motor located in an engine bay ?
take a b-series for example..

^^^not too sure. but because of how a starter works.. it will ALWAYS be connected to your gearbox somewhere where it has access to the flywheel ring gear.

Cool,you got a lefthand drive.

Its on the drivers side under the dizzy.
Follow the wire from the battery positive terminal to the thing attached to the tranny.

Good post dsp26.
