Hello guys! Can anyone tell me if I should take my dc2R to honda dealership or reputatble workshop (in Melb) for the major? I heard ppl saying that dealerships may be not as good and they are expensive.
But then, I work Mon-Fri , and there isn't any workshop open on Sat though
=(

I have made a search before, however, does anyone here can consoildate what are the major parts that needed to be replaced for 100k? I know that timing belt is a must, but how about spark plug, water pump and clutch?

Thanks!

well u got a choice of where u wana take the car.. i live in nsw so pricing mite be different. at the honda dealership they wer only goin to do wat was req in the hand book.. which was nothing major except for the timing belt and waterpump.. but i wanted EVERYTHING done. all fluids, filters + timing belt spark plugs water pump + my pads which needed replacing anyway. and i got quoted close to 1500 parts + labour.. and i was like WTF!!!!! ther was no way i was goin to the stealership.. so instead i found a reputable mechanic.. ended up paying $877 inc GST.. ended up savin myself alot of money..

okay u definately NEED to change or timing belt.. and the usual things such as oil, oil filter, transmission fluid .. if u havnt done it before.. cos in the honda handbook it says every 120k km.. but i was like err so i chnaged mine every 20,000.. *of course u dont have to it was included in the service listing so thats why i did mine* spark plugs especially if u have a modified car u most likely need too.. if u hav been following the handbook the last major service was done at 80,000km which did the fluids and filters.. if that was done then u dont need to change the brake / clutch and coolant cos thats done every 40,000 as a minimum req in the handbook..

the rest of the parts are inspect and replace if necessary.. i personallly did not replace the waterpump as i was told i dint need to.. same with my air filter.. cos it jus got a clean and was like new again...

so at the end of the day its up to you wat u want.. i take good care of my car mechanically.. *cant speak for exterior cos always get these random dents, key attacks etc* so i paid for practically everything under that bonnet to be changed...

clutch is a differnet story.. if it needs replacing cos its slipping, shuddering then go ahead and do it at the same time.. save urself abit on doubling up on labour.. but once again if its stil in good condition. do it another time..

be prepard to dish out quite abit of money tho.. a reputable mech can go up to 1k and the stealership will go higher depending on wat parts u wanted changed..

good luck wit it.. hope i helpd

For a DC2R. Prices are approx what you should expect if you get this done at a honda dealer. Prices include all parts and labour.

Major Service: ~$900
every 40,000 km or 24 months
change engine oil
change oil filter
change transmission/diff oil
change clutch fluid
change brake fluid
change air filter
change fuel filter
change engine coolant fluid
clean TB
plus all the other stuff involved in a minor service

Minor Service: ~$300
every 10,000 km or 6 months
engine oil
oil filter
lube body
check fluid levels
yada yada

Cam Timing Belt: ~$400
at 100,000 km or 5 years
tappets adjusted
new rocker cover gasket
new cam shaft seals
good idea to change water pump whilst cam timing belt off ~$400. MUCH more if you get this done without belt change.

Plugs:
every 100,000 km
B18C7 uses plat plugs thus longer life

As you can see, these prices are higher than non-honda shops. You pay a premium for honda services.

My R has 59,000 km on the clock, but i just did a 80,000 km (second major) plus cam belt and pump replacement service. My belt didnt look very worn; but is it worth the risk? Please dont neglect the 100,000 km / 5 year rule. It may hurt your wallet now, but if your belt snaps, the car would be pretty much written off due to the ridiculously high fee for a B18C7 rebuild.

Where are you located mate?
I would recommend you either Chasers(www.chasers.com.au) or N1 (www.n-1.comm.au) as they are both working on weekend as well.

Thanks guys! Your sharings are seriously valuable

I service my car every 10000k at dealership, the last service was 90000km (minor - change oil and filter ).

It seems like most ppl taking their cars to reputable workshops [mechanics who know about Hondas'], I will go to workshops this time. Just wondering if they are able to do minor tuning for me e.g. Air/Fuel Ratio and engine compression ?

Is it gonna be a one full day job only if I take the car in early morning Sat (presume that nothing major comes up) ?

Thanks again ~:D

I had Carl Schembri (9776 1505) in Pattersons Lakes do my 100k service.

It is a way to travel, but I have a lot of confidence in him.

changing your engine compression ratio is NOT minor tuning, it requires the cylinder head to be removed and components either modified or changed.

Air/fuel ratio cant be changed unless you have either a piggyback style interceptor (vafc) or a fully programmable ecu ie hondata, power fc etc.
