Just wondering if the 96 coupe are a good car. I read that there made in United States and not japan like most. Is this a problem in quality?

thanks

PS, Im a n00b

no coupes were made in japan
the coupe is an american concept. it was designed and made in the US.
the US exported the EG coupe to jap but it didnt take off over there.

No theyre great cars. Cost alot of extra money when new compared to the standard civic sedan and hatch. Excellent cars, love the sexy lines of the coupe. Excellent build quality, Honda have a great standards and dont produce shit boxes like some korean cars on the market. Thats why Hondas are expensive cause of the higher quality parts. Youll be suprised how much the coupes were brand new. Good cars aint cheap, cheap cars aint good general rule of thumb.

mate have a look at the 99-00 coupes as well. cost a little more but you get a b16a twin cam vtec engine as well. but the exterior is pretty similar just different rear light and front bumper, lights etc.

this is my first car so i only have 11Grand to spend, would love a dohc motor but cant afford it :( i think that the SOHC will be good enough :P

Around what Km's would you get out of a 96 coupe if always serviced and taken care of?

I found when I test drove the SOHC version years ago that it felt really weak. I found my mums ED hatch with twin carby engine more fun to drive....guess also cause the coupe is heavier, just didn't feel like it went that well. If I had the choice between the SOHC coupe or a civic, I'd go the EG civic Si hehehe..unless you get a bargain EK4 hehehehe....we've got an EK4 at home...and it goes pretty well...you still need to step on the gas to get it moving at times.

do you mean how many kms per tank ?

i'd say around 500km per tank 40L tank, only if you're babying it around..

or do you mean what would the average kms be for a 96 coupe in the market ?

10 x ~15,000 kms

around 150,000+ kms

but seeing as it's a fuel economical car, people would probably drive more..

So your saying that they have no power ? and i ment how many K's out of the motor before it blew up :p

Are they VTEC ?

vti coupe (EJ8) comes with SOHC vtec from 96 - 98

they replaced vti with vti-r coupe (EM1). Comes with DOCH VTEC from 98 - 00 <- The best looking+performance Civic IMO.

There is also Gli coupe 98 - 00. SOHC non-vtec.

The coupes sohc vtec go really good come with sohc vtec and stock 93kw with just unleaded petrol. They are light 1055 kgs, so the power to weight ratio is reasonable. Its a great daily driver, and if you ever want more power just stick a turbo kit on it. The money you spend on a engine conversion the turbo kit, will give you lot more power especially torque. Great car loving mine heaps, great on petrol and fast enough for daily basis.

Mrrevolution
04-08-2006, 04:58 PM
Also to make you happy they produce 145 nm torque stock and the EM1 produce 149nm torque stock.

Yeh its worth it, make sure you go round in circles and check the cv joints and clutch and any dents or body damage. When you look at the oil cap make sure theres no white substance, if there is that means water is mixing with the oil and do not what so ever buy it. Thats about the main things to look for, also the log book to check if the k's are correct.

dont know anything about the rims or tyres, one has gutter rash and the one in the boot is only a 14" or what ever they come stock, dad said if we can find another the same as these put the one with gutter rash in boot.

It's really a personal opinion. EJ8 has enough power for me. It sounds nice when it goes to redline. Don't take my word, take it for a test drive... make sure you go over 3k rpm where the fun starts.

The good thing is that it only uses 91 ULP, not premium. Vti-R requires premium for best performance.

The sohc vtec motors found in those cars are pretty good (vti version)... i have one and it never misses a beat... its a fun little zippy motor, but yeah it can be abit sluggish under 3000rpm... just make sure you dont stack your car with massive sound systems and big 18" wheels.... also i found that in my car with two or more ppl the car can become a snail -___- ... i fill my car up with premium fuel, it just feels more smoother but i wont know if theres any real performance gains... its just cleaner for the motor.

xedent
06-08-2006, 08:28 PM
ok, yea dad says to always use premium, that the extra money would probably get you ferther anyway.

I recommend to test it yourself. Try different kind of fuel. There is always marketing gimmicks... like taking your car further (Shell), cleaner engine (Caltex vortex, mobil 2000),

Read the manual... and don't give more than what you car needs.

use bp ultimate, its better than the rest, plus vti sohc is about the same as vtir dohc from 0 to 100.

hey! i got a coupe as wels n im on my P's... dis is my 2nd car but it feels like my 1st car... newaiz to hit VTEC just trash ur car until u hear a differnt sound.. i say dis because some coupes like ours hitt VTEC differnt.. my car hitts VTEC at 5500rpm and my fwens EJ8 laggs cuz his VTEC kicks in at 7000rpm which is near redline... just test ur car out, dat way u find out where abt ur VTEC kicks in...drive many times as possible to quickly get ur P's..

fuel econ is about the same to a b16 dont say it isnt..
sohc vtec? lmao hear the engine sound? lmao
u need headers, exhaust intake to actually hear vtec in them
only thing i like about d16s is turbos

my brothers is a 97 model civic coupe. his is US spec due to dash being white lights, the back says VTi Coupe (pretty sure the jap ones say just coupe), his interior is different etc.
I knwo this because my mate and brother have exact same honda civic coupe except my brothers is manual

same year civics?? a/t and m/t have different clusters.. maybe the previous owner changed the globes in the cluster.. stock for stock if it was a EJ8 it should have VTi sticker, EM1 - VTiR, EJ6 - GLi etc.. im pretty sure they all shared the same civic coupe badge..

my brothers is 97, its EJ8 model and it says VTi Coupe, my friends just says coupe. but both have vtec engines, my brothers is stock and the lights inside are all white while my friends is that normal warm light that the civics use.
his also has "maintenace required" on the cluster im pretty sure thats EM1 only?

2000 model coupe's are from japan btw, beforehand im pretty sure its made in US?

someone's be playing funny buggers with badges.

thats a vti badge is off a accord and i have no idea what that other Honda badge is off of.

and yeah mine has the engine service switch on the dash (well not anymore) and its a 98.

Every single coupe is made in the US.
with the EG coupes Honda actually made a feature of them being built in the US. and fitted them with Honda Motor Co America with eagle badges on them(jdm market). they look hideous but just to say again CIVIC COUPE WAS NEVER BUILT ANYWHERE BUT IN AMERICA.

no vti badge on the car.vti badge is only the accord as ctr coupe said.
