I just had my civic vti auto serviced today at parramatta...the 1000km free service
the dealer just inspected the car and didnt do any oil change or anything
they told me that the oil in the civic is a special run in oil and doesnt need to be replaced at 1000
do you think i should change the oil myself or leave it until 10000?

do AUDM civics have an oil life meter on the multifunction display under the tach? hit the "SEL/RES" button a few times and you should see the "Oil Life" icon show up and some % of oil life. my USDM Civic is at 48000kms and oil life is at 40%. my first oil change isn't till 8000km/6mo whichever comes first.

I noticed that too, personally I would leave it till 10,000km and then after that do it every 5,000km.
The newer engines honda use, have very tigth tolerances and use thinner oil, this is how they can go from a 1.6liter engine to a 1.8 liter engine and not have such drastic increases in fuel consumption.

Nope.
You get Odo/Trip A, Temp/Trip A, Odo/Trip B, Temp/Trip B.

Nah, they still use a 10w-30 oil. This is why it has better fuel consumption: http://world.honda.com/HDTV/news/2005-4050705a/

I just past the 10k mark and haven't changed my oil yet so I'm guessing its fine. Yes I know, already booked in a service!
