any1 know how to install a roof scoop - i wan put one on my eg sedan - to make it look prettier lol,

but do i need to cut d roof? and is it illegal?

You don't need to cut the roof if you are just putting it on for the RICE factor...But if you want it to actually do more than get laughed at, you will need to cut the roof, and chat to an engineer before you do it. The roof is a structural part of the car and is not meant to be cut...

you're openeing a whole new can of worms in terms of water/rain leaks if u cut a hole in the roof.. roof scoops are great on NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND.. leave them there IMO.

These "roof scoops" are actually vents, common in rally cars for ventilation cause they drive with the windows up especially on dirt (gets very dusty - and also to a some extent, for aerodynamics).

I like the look especially on the WRX, but if it leads to nowhere, then its a wank factor.

Stand out from the crowd huh? Leave the car stock, and that'll stand out LOL

If you do it, just do it right. Don't just sikaflex it to the roof. Fiberglass it all up to the roof properly and make sure the inside roof has a flap to seal the roof up so no water can leak in.

I hate roof scoops, but i say do it because its what you wanna do. By the looks of the car in the avatar its already "rice" as they say, so it wont be that much more of a stand-out than the car already is.

I'd just say that not many of us have used them personally. Like I said, if you want to do it....At least use it as a scoop and get the air intake to the cabin. Otherwise, it will just fill up with crud, and you will need to remove it to clean underneath it every time you wash your car....

If you truly do want to put one on, why do you need our approval? It's your car, do as you wish. I say go for it....Just get a subtle one.

hey i dont care about the LOOK of YOUR car, i mean you've obviously gone the cali style rice approach and I agree with panda for example that you should modify your car the way YOU want, not whatever is the current trend.. HOWEVER.. you're compromising the structure of the roof, encouraging a new water leak opportunity, encouraging another orifice for grime buildup which leads to rust.. I mean it's a 10 year old car so the chassis has a lot of flex so any FG bogged up bits etc will crack.. and lead to rust and leaks in your roof.. so basicallyyou're putting form before function which IMO is a no-no.

oh and whoever was discussing the WRX bonnet scoops.. the WRC subarus have a FMIC so the Bonnet SCOOP is redundant except to vent cool air into the underhood area.. that's why some people used to turn their scoops backwards to act as a venturi to suck out the hot air from under the hood..

honestly..dunno if u eva saw my civic..the link is in my signature..i got flamed hardcore for having stripes on it..and i was lookin at gettin the roof scoop done as well..just found out it may cost a fair bit..i looked on ebay and there was a nice lil one that looked nuts! ill try and find a pik of it..but speakin to a mate of mine who put on on his wrx..it cost him a fair bit..its not as simple as stickin it on and off u go..it requires u to mold it all and get it evened out with to roof and then resprayin it..then u need to put a lil vent at the back of it.. for airflow..cause ur gonna be speedin one day and the thing is gonna rip straight off due to the force of the wind having no way outttt..

anyways let us know how it goes..!

if you do get a roof scoop, make sure you do cut a hole in the roof and get it done properly.
