Have you checked under your car.......I mean......your mates car in the morn for any puddles?

I found a puddle under mine one morn & traced it back up to the reducer in the top rad hose I had to use cos my rad spigot was smaller.Done know if u had to do the same?

Also my heater hoses were very hard to attach(no room to work in) maybe check there as well.

Let us know how you...I mean.....your mate goes

if you can, get it on a hoist, and go over the heater hoses at the bottom.
the spring clamps that honda use, tend to lose it's tension when it gets used too much, used meaning taking off putting on.
also, i've seen this happen, a very very very, thin crack on the radiator, can cause it as well, without any overheating issues.

can't smell anything in the cabin? maybe from the heater box.
as usual, check for dis colouration in the radiator/motor.

hopefully its not an internal leak.
could have it compression tested if you know someone / workshop with a compression tester for this??

It doesnt sound severe enough to be a headgasket. Well lets hope not!

get it up to operating temperature as there is more pressure. leaks may not be evident on cold engines

You could always try a pressure test from the radiator thru the water system to see where it'll be leaking from
IF theres no leak's then water may be going thru the system and he's not topping it up ? as the air bubbles are being filled .. if that makes sense

pretty obvious but...just lift up ur bonnet and see if theres any dried up coolant arond the area. could be on ur bonnet or fan your engine etc.....if so im pretty sure its ur top tank....

i think a hose is loose...on the block there are a few hoses that lead to the heater core and back again etc , good chance your "mate" didnt pull them down and clamp properly.
Once the car heats up and the pipes expand , so do the small gaps and coolant will spray out. Ive got the same problem on my "mates" car and it leaves abi of white residue where the coolatn sprays ...just keep topping it up lor for now , and find the area where it is leaking
